The dirty ticket industry

Of course everyone already knew LiveNation was scamming us with their ticket prices, but now we finally have proof. Check out this insightful documentary on how LiveNation and other concert promoters are allocating tickets directly to scalper sites such as Viagogo and Seatwave, for them to resell them at ridiculous prices.

Born this way foundation

Watch Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey, Deepak Chopra and many others introduce the Born This Way Foundation live from Harvard University's Sanders Theatre on February 29th, by clicking here.

Uninvited

It's been three months since this performance was aired, but I hadn't seen it before, so check out Alanis Morissette, singing her hit song Uninvited together with X Factor contestant Josh Krajcik.

Gang bang

In addition to him releasing his own new album The Origin Of Love later this year, it has been announced today Mika is co-writer of "Gang Bang", a song from Madonna's upcoming album MDNA, produced by William Orbit together with the Demolition Crew.

New poll

It's time for a new poll! As you may have heard, Titanic will be back in cinemas the world over this year, but this time as a 3D movie. Since Titanic is one of my favorite movies of all time, I'm very much looking forward to seeing it again on the big screen. So, for this week's poll, let me know if you're looking forward to it as well.

Beautiful disaster

Please enjoy this amazing live version of Beautiful Disaster, by the wonderful Kelly Clarkson.

Employment discrimination

An openly gay music teacher at a Catholic school in suburban St. Louis has been fired after church officials learned he was planning to marry his partner of 20 years.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Al Fischer's Feb. 17 firing from St. Ann Catholic School follows a Jan. 11 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that religious employees of a church cannot sue for employment discrimination.

Fisher, who had worked at the school for four years, declined to discuss the firing other than to confirm it.

The St. Louis Archdiocese said in statement that it supports the school's action "as it is in full compliance with the Christian Witness Statement signed by every educator in the Catholic school system." Among other things, the statement requires that educators "not take a public position contrary to the Catholic Church" and "demonstrate a public life consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church."

Ridiculous! Sue them!

Katy talks

Katy Perry is on the cover of the latest issue of Interview Magazine. Here are some quotes from the article:

On hosting Saturday Night Live: “I thought it was really fun, and, of course, interesting and educational in terms of how the industry works…You know how they call SNL ‘the institution?’ It is like an institution—but in a good way. There’s nothing like it, so everyone kind of dreams about doing it. But then you actually get there and realize how much work it is and how little time you guys have to put the whole show together…I think we had three consecutive 20-hour days or something.

On being very different from the rest of her family: “I think they just see that the dynamic has changed because I’m in a different place. But it’s not like I disrespect them in any way. I mean, I take care of them. But that’s what I’ve always wanted: to have enough that I could make sure that everyone in my family had enough. I grew up not really having anything, so the idea that I can take care of my family and my friends now is a really cool bonus.”

On what she wants to do when she’s 80: “I feel like I could be in Florida on a kind of healthy trip where I’m just riding my bike and chillin’ at the beach, with an assisted-living condo bit and a meal delivery service—which is sort of how I’m living now. But I also kind of hope that I turn out to be like my grandma, who is 91 and so rad.”

Happy birthday

Happy birthday to Ke$ha, who turned 24 today!

Diamond jubilee

Kylie Minogue has been added to the line-up for this summer's Diamond Jubilee concert. The star-studded event has already seen the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Jessie J and JLS confirmed to perform.

The gig, which will take place outside Buckingham Palace in June, has now added Kylie and Stevie Wonder to the packed bill. Speaking about landing a slot at the show, Kylie said she was "honoured" to be asked to play. She said:

"I'm honoured to be invited to perform at the Diamond Jubilee Concert. To share the stage in front of Buckingham Palace with music legends including Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones and Elton John in celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is very exciting."

Girl gone wild

Earlier this week, Madonna released the second single from her upcoming album MDNA< after lead single Give Me All Your Luvin' turned out to be a huge flop. Called Girl Gone Wild, I actually like the song, although it's getting a bit ridiculous for a 53 year old to keep referring to herself as 'girl'. Also, what's with the totally inappropriate single cover?

Still, the song is just fine.

Tori talks

Tori Amos did a nice interview for Greatest Women in Music. Check it out above.

The king of torts

If you've been here before, you probably already know I'm a huge John Grisham fan, so I'm happy to report I'm about to start in yet another one of his great novels, called The King Of Torts (although I'm reading it in Dutch, called De Claim). It's amazing how this guy continues to write one great book after another.

412 pages of fun an excitement!

Star of the evening

The lovely Kylie Minogue looked gorgeous as always on the red carpet right before last week's BRIT Awards 2012 at the O2 Arena in London. Although Kylie wasn't nominated herself (she was there to present an award to Adele), once again she was the star of the evening!

Not worth it

The Madonna World Tour 2012 might sell out a couple of arena's, but it seems like her ridiculous ticket prices are finally catching up with her in stadiums around the world. Shows in many European venues are far from being sold out, with Brussels being an absolute lowpoint. Of course, charging over 200 (and i some countries even over 300) Euro's for early access tickets, and 150 - 250 Euro's for 'normal' Golden Circle, in this economy, has that effect on people.

Madonna may have said she is worth the cost of admission, but it seems like a lot of her fans think differently. Serves her right!

On a night like this

Kylie Minogu has released the second recording from her fantastisch orchestral Abbey Road sessions. Check out the absolutely stunning version of On A Night Like This above.

The Da Vinci code

Tonight on Dutch television: The Da Vinci Code, starring Tom Hanks, Jean Reno and Audrey Tautou.

Forties are great

Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd, who star together in upcoming movie Wanderlust, are on the cover of the latest issue of GQ Magazine. Here are some wuotes from the interview:

Jennifer, on pregnancy rumors: “I’m not having triplets. Not having twins. Nor am I having one baby. [lifts up sweater and gestures to belly; it appears flat] I did not elope… You heard it here. I’m not knocked up now.”

Paul, on relationships: “I think most marriages, mine included, you’re constantly tending the garden, constantly working at it.”

Jennifer, on relationships: “It’s a growing, literally living thing. There’s going to be growing pains, there’s going to be awkward moments—your lanky phase, your pimpled phase. But if the road starts to [diverge] and one person is growing this way and the other is growing that way… Sometimes that can happen and you can stay together, and sometimes you can’t.”

Jennifer, on being in her 40s: “Forty’s great! Oh, my God, my thirties blew! Forties are great.”

I hate love

It's been a couple of years since we've last heard from them, but I'm happy to report Garbage is back! Yesterday, on Valentine's Day, they released a teaser for their upcoming new single I Hate Love. Check it out above!

F1 Rocks

Kylie Minogue will be headlining the first ever F1 Rocks show in Malaysia staged at the base of the city’s iconic PETRONAS Twin Towers on Friday 23 March 2012.

Speaking of her upcoming F1 Rocks debut, Kylie commented: “I am really looking forward to visiting your beautiful country and performing for my Malaysian fans for the first time! I will be visiting the Sepang International Circuit and the F1 paddock, sampling the action on the race track and cheering on my favourite drivers! I am so excited to be performing at F1 Rocks in front of the famous PETRONAS Twin Towers, I hope everyone enjoys the show!”

Tickets for this one-off events can be obtained by entering a free competition. Click here to enter!

Madonna endorses scalping

For her upcoming world tour, Madonna has partnered with secondary ticket seller Viagogo, allowing fans to sell their tickets for a premium price. Basically, a scalper site. Where every other artist is trying to make sure scalpers aren't getting their hands on tickets, Madonna is doing exactly the opposite, and promotes it openly.

The reason? Money of course. 'Fans' are buying up loads of tickets, thus ensuring shows sell out in no time, and then sell these tickets for ridiculous prices. Viagogo gets 10% out of every transaction, from which Madonna gets a share as well. Just minutes after a Madonna show goes on sale, Viagogo gets overwhelmed with tickets being sold, with ridiculous mark-ups.

What a total bitch. Instead of making sure her fans are able to get tickets for the normal face value price (which is already skyrockethigh for Madonna's shows), she's actually helping scalpers to rip her fans off even more.

Queen of the charts

Whitney Houston is set to conquer the UK charts this weekend. Following her sudden death last Saturday, her fans have been paying her the ultimate tribute and buying her music.
Sales of her records have soared, with 27 singles and three albums going into the Top 200 chart. Seven of her songs will make the Top 40 singles chart. Whitney's cover of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You – which spent ten weeks at No1 twenty years ago and was the biggest selling single of 1992 – is heading for No10. I Wanna Dance With Somebody is set to reach No13 and One Moment In Time is at 25. Her Greatest Hits album has also rocketed up the albums chart to No6.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "The tragic death of Whitney Houston came as a shock to her friends, colleagues and music fans across the world.

"Again, the British public is demonstrating its love of Whitney, just as it did for Amy Winehouse last year and Michael Jackson in 2009."

3) Smile

6) I'm With You
7) Complicated
8) The Best Damn Thing
9) Girlfriend
10) Don't Tell Me

What are yours?

They're getting desperate

Now that the conservative right is losing battle after battle concerning marriage equality, it's funny to see how their 'articles' are getting more and more ridiculous by the day. Hate group the American Family Association is always to be counted upon, but this time, it's not their house resident nutjob Bryan Fischer who did the job.

In fact, through their 'news' website One"News"Now, they've this time given a relatively unknown new 'writer', named James L. Lambert, a platform to spit his hate from. The end result is of course the same, another lunatic ranting on and on about what's inevitable: gays and lesbians will eventually have equal rights in the United States.

Click here to read his trashy piece.

Battle of the bitches

Time for a new poll! With both artists going on a world tour this year, let me know which one you are looking forward to the most: Madonna's Madonna 2012 World Tour, or Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball.

Voting's on!

Less is more

Adele is on the cover of the March 2012 issue of Vogue Magazine. Here are some quotes from the interview:

On having voice troubles:
"I’ve been singing properly every day since I was about fifteen or sixteen, and I have never had any problems with my voice, ever. I’ve had a sore throat here and there, had a cold and sung through it, but that day it just went while I was onstage in Paris during a radio show. It was literally like someone had pulled a curtain over it.”

On her Grammy nominations:
“I burst into tears when I found out. And I would love, absolutely love, to win. This record is coming to an end, and that would be the final brick on it.”

On her performance style:
“I definitely think that less is more. I don’t think I could pull it off, doing an elaborate show. There are a couple of songs that are worthy of a few explosions and dancing teams and stuff like that. But I would feel really uncomfortable displaying my music like that. I just want to sing it. I don’t want to perform with my body.”

Monster pit

Through her Twitter account, Lady Gaga has revealed some details about the stage setup for her upcoming Born This Way Ball Tour. The area enclosed by the catwalk was described by Gaga as "The Monster Pit".

The Monster Pit is General Admission only, and Little Monsters unlock it when they arrive to the arena or stadium. Entry to The Monster Pit is relegated to the fans who have arrived first, waited all night, dressed to 'Ball.' Every night Haus of Gaga will choose fans from The Monster Pit to come back stage and meet me! These tickets are not more expensive. No dress code requirement. Born This Way means anything goes.

Awesome!

Bridget Jones's Baby

The third Bridget Jones movie will be called Bridget Jones's Baby, and all three stars of the first two movies will be back! Obviously the movie couldn't be made without Renee Zellweger, but it has now been announced Colin Firth is also set to return as Mark Darcy, while Hugh Grant will play suave troublemaker Daniel Cleaver - despite telling BBC News in 2009 that he had no plans to act in another film in the Jones franchise.

Can't wait!

Rolling in the deep

Adele performed a wonderful version of Rolling In The Deep at the 54th Grammy Awards, last night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Check it out above.

Bloodstained heart

Darren Hayes has created a very special e-card that you can personalise and send to someone you love. Visit www.bloodstainedheart.com to view this emotional video message and then create and personalise your own message to send to someone you love. Share it with the world!

"Sometimes the things that make us most happy cost nothing at all"

Tell everyone you care about - that you love their Bloodstained Hearts.

A day out

On May 24, my friend Annelies and I, after 4 years, are finally going back to Walibi! Walibi, although not the most beautiful Dutch themepark (De Efteling takes that credit) is full of roller coasters, which Annelies and I happen to love. Can't wait to ride the Goliath (pictured above) again!

Glitter in the air

A year ago, at the 53th Grammy Awards, P!nk performed an absolutely stunning version of her beautiful ballad Glitter In The Air. Check it out above.

The Lady at the awards

Check out photos of Lady Gaga at the 54th Grammy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on Sunday Night, by clicking here.

This means war

Reese Witherspoon stopped by Today on Monday morning to chat about her new movie, This Means War, which will open this week, and working with pal Chelsea Handler.

“Chelsea and I laughed all the time,” Reese said. “(We’re) this unlikely match, but we really got along. She makes up everything off the top of her head. She says it herself, she’s like, ‘I don’t need the script.’ We’d just tell her what the scene was and she would just make up stuff around it. And everybody — every man, every woman in the whole room was just dying laughing.”

Stylist

Kylie Minogue is looking absolutely smashing on the cover of the latest issue of Stylist Magazine. I need to get myself a copy, hopefully it's on sale in the Netherlands as well.

In shock

"I'm in shock. Whitney was such an amazing artist. When I started my English career, I wanted to be like her. I loved her so much. My prayers go out to her daughter and to all of her family."

Celine Dion, talking about Whitney Houston's death.

Selling fast

An extra show in Berlin has been added to the European leg of the Madonna World Tour.

The new concert takes place on June 30. Ticket go on general public sale on February 17 at 9 AM - please check Madonna.com for the Icon dedicated pre-sale.

The US concerts that went on general sale today are rocking - Chicago already received a second date but also Washington DC and New York are close to be sold-out and only single seats were left after a few minutes.

Meryl Thatcher, trophy snatcher

Meryl Streep added a second BAFTA to her heaving trophy cabinet for her portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. She claimed a British heritage saying: "Half of me is Streep, but the other half is Wilkinson from Lincolnshire, so I come by this part honestly."
Earlier, host Stephen Fry joked: "This could be the first time in history we hear the words, 'Maggie,Maggie, Maggie. Win, win, win' or 'Meryl Thatcher, Trophy Snatcher'.

Cause of death

Whitney Houston did not drown but died of a cocktail of prescription drugs and alcohol, US reports said today. Her family is understood to have been told by coroners that she may well have been dead before slipping underwater in her bath, according to showbiz website TMZ.
Whitney, 48, was said to have been found in the tub at her hotel by her aunt Mary Jones, who tried in vain to revive her. Half a dozen bottles of prescription drugs like those used by Michael Jackson were found in her suite in Beverly Hills. There were also reports that there was not enough water in her lungs to have drowned her.

The fresh reports came after pictures showed the star looking wasted during a two-night booze binge before her shocking death. It was also revealed a film crew waiting to interview the fallen superstar at her hotel were told: "She's not coming... she's dead." Ironically, the VH1 pop channel team were waiting to talk to Whitney about "getting back on track" following her dark spiral into addiction.

Tragic.

Best friends

A week after signing divorce papers to finalise split from Russell Brand, Katy Perry and Rihanna appeared to be very touchy-feely when photographed together in the audience at the Grammy Awards. Rihanna placed her arm seductively across Katy's leg while they waited for the Los Angeles ceremony to start. Moments later, Katy seemed to be admiring Rihanna's killer curves in her low-cut frock.

In recent months Katy, 27, has leant on her pop star pal, 23, while dealing with the break-up of her 14-month marriage.

The complete confection

In January 2012, it was announced that Katy Perry's smash hit album Teenage Dream would be re-released, under the title Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. The Complete Confection is slated for a March 27, 2012 release. And now, as of this week, we also know some of the extra songs that will be included!

It will contain the original album, plus 3 single remixes of "E.T." featuring American rapper Kanye West, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" featuring also rapper Missy Elliott, and the acoustic version of "The One That Got Away". The package will also contain three new songs that didn't make the original cut of Teenage Dream, plus a megamix of the six singles, made by Tommie Sunshine. Some of the confirmed tracks are:
  • "Part of Me" – 3:35
  • "Dressin' Up"
  • "E.T." (Remix featuring Kanye West) – 3:51
  • "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" (Remix featuring Missy Elliott) – 3:59
  • "The One That Got Away" (Acoustic version) – 4:19
  • "Tommie Sunshine Megamix"

54th Grammy Awards

Last night the 54th Grammy Awards were held at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and although of course the focus was on Whitney Houston's death, it was still a pretty inpressive show. Adele came out as the big winner, taking in no less than 6 awards.
