Finally weekend

You wouldn't even believe how happy I am the weekend has started. The first week after three weeks vacation takes a bit of getting used to, so afterwards you finally realise how titing it can be. It has been a good week though, and I'm really happy to be back at the office.

Tonight, we're having a work function, which is also nice, because it gives me a way of seeing everyone again in a more informal way. Not that it hasn't been great seeing everyone at work, but you know how it goes, with a nice glass of wine everything gets a little bit easier.

After the work function, there's another party to go to, and I'm looking forward to that one as well, so I guess I'll be having a great evening. Anyway, of course it's also a nice thing to be able to wake up tomorrow knowing there's nothing I have to go to real early, so I guess that makes a difference as well.

Ziena and I are going shopping for new clothes for her job interview next week, and being the gay guy I am, of course I pretend to be the perfect companion for an occasion like this.

1 Year ago: Paris

As promised last week, I'll keep it on with my tour memories. So, since today it has been exactly one year ago I saw Madonna's Confessions Tour at the Palais Omnisports Bercy in Paris, here's what I wrote last year on MadonnaTribe:

Thanks to M-Tribe reader Theo for sharing this report back from his second "Confessions Tour" show in the Palais Omnisport de Bercy in Paris - "and it was even better than the previous one in Hannover" - he says. "As with every Madonna tour, the Paris crowd is the absolute top notch! Despite all the pushing, shoving and waiting in line for what seems to be forever, you just can't top them! We succesfully boo-ed off the NRJ Radio Mastermix, by singing 'time goes by so slowy' all through their setlst, after which the Queen finaly came on stage. The crowd went absolutely wild and Madonna seemed to be in a top mood, despite having several technical difficulties all through the show." "Her speeches were about the same as they were during the first two shows in Bercy, only this time she crawled around on the catwalk, making us scream "We want peace, fuck George Bush". "And then the big thing happened: during Let It Will Be, Madonna touched my hand!!! oh my God...'I was hoping for the entire evening for this to happen, since I had a perfect location at the beginning of the central catwalk, right near the main stage, and she did! As you can imagine, I'm one happy camper right now!" "Anyway, he show was perfect, and I can't wait for next Sunday and Monday, when Confessions will hit the Amsterdam ArenA!"

Fag leaves fag

You probably wouldn't even believe me, but I'm gonna post it anyway, since it's true: I quit smoking yesterday evening. At about 11 I had my last cigarette and that's it. This morning I woke up and I was still very happy with the decision, although after lunch things started to get a bit more difficult. Of course, after smoking for such a long time, it takes my body a bit of getting used to not getting any new nicotine. I wanted to go cold turkey cause I just don't buy into all those nicotine patches and other artificial ways of quiting.

Anyway, it's been almost 24 hours now since my last cigarette. As I said, this afternoon was a bit tricky, but I'm doing just fine now as I'm writing this, and I'm actually quite proud of myself. Of course I know it's only a day, but you know what they say: the first couple of days are the most difficult, so if I manage to get through this, I might as well get through it all, won't I?

Also, I'm planning not to substitute smoking with food. I've gone through great lenghts these past couple of months to lose a couple of pounds and not get them back, so I'd be damned if quiting one vice would endorse another one. So, I had a sandwich at work and didn't go to the supermarket on my way home, so there's no food in the house to indulge on.

As you can see, I'm doing pretty well, but as hard times will probably come in the next couple of days, I could really use some support!

Choices, choices...

Yesterday W. and I mutually decided to break up, which is not a huge drama. Actually, it went pretty well, as I was definitely not looking forward to 'the talk'. Sometimes things just don't work out the way you intented them, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't regret our couple of weeks together at all, but it was just time to move on. Learning from experiences, is what I call it.

Today of course I went to work, and had a good day. Ziena was having a day off yesterday, and I always enjoy my work more when she's around, so I was happy today that she was back. The day went by pretty fast, just as it did yesterday, and now I have to decide what to do with my evening. My hometown Groningen is having its annual celebration today, but I'm not sure if I want to go. The bands that are playing aren't exactly my favourites, so that's not really an incentive to show up. Maybe I'll just stay at home and whatch the premiere episode of the new Desperate Housewives season.

So many choices, such a short evening. Let me get back to my dinner and talk to you soon!

Back in business

After three weeks of vacation, today it was finally time to go back to the office. I was a bit two-sided about the prospect, meaning that even though I was looking forward to seeing my co-workers again, and being busy, I also loved having time off. I suppose that goes for everyone who has to go back to work, but still.

Anyway, I arrived and was instantly happy. It was great seeing everyone again, and I immediately had a busy day, which is something I like, cause time passes by so quickly when you're busy.

Now that I'm back at home, I feel kind of stupid for not enjoying going back to work, since it was all fun today. So, even though I loved my vacation, I love having things back to normal as well!

My camping trip

The weekend so far has been great! 3 Days of having fun in the woods with a large group of people can really make me happy. We arrived on Thuesday at about 3.30, so after getting our tent together the fun could start. A camp like this is mainly about drinking beer and socialising, which is exactly what I did all weekend long. In addition to that, the weather has been great, so we could go swimming.

All in all a prefect weekend. Right now I'm really tired, so I'll leave it to this. Cheers!

Camping life

In about an hour, I'm off for a mini-break with my old student club. We're going camping in Drenthe (in Holland) from Thursday through Saturday. Even though I despise camping, I'm actually looking forward to it. It's a nice way to end your vacation, since after this weekend I have to go back to the office.

I thought I would be very unhappy going back to work, but actually I kinda like it. Three weeks vacation is great, but can get a bit boring after a while, so this is a nice moment to go back to work. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing my co-workers again!

So, there won't be any blogging tomorrow, cause the internet hasn't been invented in the woods. See you all next Saturday!

Sweet candy

This picture was mailed to me (thanks Arjan) and looks like a promotional poster for Madonna's new album, according to the poster entitled Sweet Candy. I think it's fan art (beautifully done), but maybe this actually is a sneak peak at the new era? You decide!

1 Year ago: Hannover

Today marks the day it's exactly one year ago I saw my first show of Madonna's fantastic Confessions Tour, in Hannover. I decided that in these upcoming weeks, I'm gonna bring back memories by posting here the reviews I send in to MadonnaTribe last year. So here's the first one:

"I just got back from my first of 4 Confession shows in Hannover, Germany, and I can only describe the show as UNBELIEVABLE. I thought nothing could ever top Re-Invention, but boy did she top it! From the moment the giant discoball opened and revealed our Queen, it was a non stop rush and I just couldn't stop dancing!
After waiting for 24 hours in line, my friend Annelies and I made a mad dash inside the AWD Arena (which is, by the way, a gigantic stadium) and made it to front row at the corner of the central catwalk and the center stage. A great place to see the show, since the end of the catwalk prevents you from seeing the main stage, as it is much higher than it was during the North American leg of the tour. From our position, we were able to see everything very clearly.Madonna almost fell during Jump, so we were a little worried this might affect her mood that night, but fortunately it didn't. She was in great spirit all night long, and quite talkative. She said "Mijne Dames und Herren, thank you for coming to our show" before Jump, and asked us to say 'Fuck you' and 'Fuck George Bush' between Let it Will Be and Drowned World.
After the fantastic La Isla Bonita (during which Cloud smiled at me, he's gorgeous!!!), she told us to shake things up, after which the breathtaking final of Lucky Star and Hung Up started. During Hung Up, I was able to catch a balloon, so imagine my happiness!
All in all, it was a fantastic show, and I can't wait for Paris and Amsterdam (both shows!) "

Social encounters

What a couple of fun days I've been having since the last time I posted! As I said, on Friday Ziena came over, which was a lot of fun. It turned out to be an all-nighter, so Saturday at first I wasn't feeling so well, but after a while everything was okay.

Saturday afternoon I went for a drink with Dirk, Anneke, Mirjam and Remco, which was nice as well. Then that evening Sara came over to watch a movie. I was pretty much exhausted, so we didn't go out afterwards, which was just fine.

Sunday I went to cultural festival Noorderzon (well known in Holland) with my ex co-worker Corien. It was great seeing her again, and we had a lot of catching up to do, so obviously we didn't do anything cultural and just went for drinks and nibbles. After Corien left, I ran into Annelies and Stef. Annelies and I hadn't seen each other for some time either, so we decided to hook up that evening, which was great.

Monday morning I went to my parents in Leeuwarden, where I stayed until after dinner. When I got back to Groningen, W. came over to my place, which was obviously very nice again. He stayed until just a couple of minutes ago, so we had lunch in town, went shopping for a while, and sat on a terrace. The weather was lousy, but we managed to stay relatively dry.

As you can see, I'm still having a lot of fun in my vacation!

R.I.P. Jos Brink

Yesterday, one of the greatest Dutch entertainers, Jos Brink, passed away. Of course I never knew him in person, but it's somewhat sad to know he's dead. I never even really watched his programs on television, but as far as I know, he did a great job, and it's sad to know he's gone away so fast.

He only made it to 65 years, and died of cancer.

Just happy

Okay, so here's a little update. W. and I are still doing just great, so for now I'm not going to write about that. I've got different news, which makes me very happy:

Ziena decided to go respond on a job advert in Groningen, which means she's not going to leave Holland for like the next year or so. As you know she's my best friend in the whole world, and of course I would have supported her totally if she decided to leave, but I do have to say I'm very happy plans have changed. I really do hope she gets the job, but looking at her track record, I believe she has a damn good chance.

She's coming over tonight, so I'm having plenty of time to talk about it, but for now: I'm just happy!

Happy birthyday Madonna!

Today Madonna turned 49 years old! Congratulations!!! I'm so happy right now, I could celebrate this as if she was family!

Fun with my boyfriend

I'm up awfully early for a vacation day, but that's because W. had to go to work and therefor had the alarm clock set at 8.30. Once I was awake I decided to get out of bed as well, so now I'm having a nice long day to enjoy. Unfortunately the weather isn't exactly cooperating, but it can't ruin my very good mood.

Sunday W. and I went to a very cute hotel in Drenthe (a province in Holland). A friend of W. was looking after the hotel while the owners were on vacation, so he invited W. (and me as well) to come over. We had some nice glasses of wine and found out the room was absolutely gorgeous. After a good night sleep and a nice breakfast, we went walking on the countryside, which was nice.

After that, we drove to Emmen (a nearby town). We found out that apart from the zoo, there is absolutely nothing to do in Emmen, but we enjoyed ourselves nevertheless.

At about 5 in the afternoon we came home, after which I went for drinks with my co-worker and friend Rik. I hadn't seen him for about a month, so it was about time to do some catching up. So at about 2 I went home and slept for quite a long time. Yesterday afternoon I went for a drink with Sjeed, after which W. came over to my place, where we watched a movie.

Now W. is at work and I won't see him again till tomorrow, but that's okay, just thinking about him makes me happy!

Happy man

So far the weekend has been just great! W. turned out to be even a greater guy than I expected, so as of yesterday we officially call each other boyfriend, which is of course something to be very happy about.

We went out for dinner at Cantina Mexicana (obviously a Mexican kitchen) and then went back to my place to watch a movie. Afterwards, we went out for drinks at the Rits, where I met some of his friends (who I, by the way, really liked). We were supposed to also go clubbing at The Golden Arm, but the Rits was nice enough to stay there, so we never made it.

Today we took a ride to the Hoornsemeer, where we had lunch. After that, our roads were temporarely seperated, since I wanted to go to Anneke's birthday drink. Had a real good time there, especially since the weather was fine enough to sit on the balcony, where I could smoke (Anneke is pregnant so there's no smoking inside).

In about 10 minutes W. will come to pick me up so that we can go to Drenthe, which is something to look forward to! All in all, I'm a really happy man!

Out for dinner

Lat Thursday, after I came back from Amsterdam and Leeuwarden, Sara and I went for a drink at De Rits, a local gay bar here in Groningen. Upon entering I immediately noticed this really cute guy sitting at the bar, so we decided to take seats right next to him. It took only 5 minutes to start chatting up to him, and he turned out to be really nice and funny as well.

So, for most of the evening we ended up talking between th three us, but after a while Sara went home and I decided to stay for a while. W. (that's this guy) and I started chatting a bit more, and now I got myself a dinner date for tonight. I'm really looking forward to it, since he seemed genuinely nice!

Sometimes the nicest guys are there just right under your eyes, you just need to look up and notice them!

The good life

These past two days have been just wonderful! Yesterday at around 2 in the afternoon, I took a train to Amsterdam, where I arrived about two hours later. Frank picked me up at the station there, and so we went to his apartment, which is absolutely huge! We did some catching up (he's got a fascinating job, but to serve his privacy, I'm not going to name it here), and then went out for a dinner in this really cool Argentinian restaurant. Dinner was great and fun! After dinner, very hip bar Arc was having cocktailnight, which means cocktails are only 5 Euro's. Needless to say, the place was packed, and instantly this turned into my favourite bar! After a couple of cocktails, we went for a drink at Montmartre, after which we went home.

He's got a jaccuzi on his roof, and let me tell you, there's nothing better than watching the stars (even on a somewhat cloudy night) from a jaccuzi!

This morning we woke up, drank some tea, and then he brought me back to the train station. I went to Leeuwarden instead of Groningen, cause I was to have dinner at my parents house, which was nice as well. After staying there for a couple of hours, I went back to Groningen, and now I'm off to have a drink with Sara.

I could get very used to this kind of lifestyle!

Back to Amsterdam

Today I'm going back to Amsterdam, to have a drink with Frank, who I told you about last weekend. This means I'll be spending more days in Amsterdam this week, than in Groningen, which is kind of nice. I really like Amsterdam, and every time I leave I get this sense of 'I want to live here'. I like the atmosphere, the way people are in a hurry but still pretty laid back. It's totally different from Groningen, even though Amsterdam isn't nearly as large as London or Paris. Also, there's some great shopping there, so I'm sure I will be spending way too much money (again).

So, in an hour I'll be off then, and probably I won't be able to post here tomorrow, so be sure to check back on Friday!

Enjoying my vacation

Alas, my visit to Walibi World didn't work out, cause Annelies couldn't get a day off work... Too bad, cause the weather's good for theme park visit, meaning not being too warm, and no rain. Fortunately Ziena and I are meeting up this afternoon, so it promises to be a good day after all. So far my vacation has been a lot of fun, so let's keep up the good spirit!

Tomorrow I will probably go visit my parents, which is always a nice way to spend the afternoon. My mother has this really nice garden where you can sit back and relax when the weather's good, and enjoy a nice cold beer or wine.

All in all, the lack of a real vacation, like going abroad, doesn't bug me at all this year!

Vacation fun

As much as I hate Monday's normally, I really liked this particular one. Obviosuly, this has everything to do with my vacation. Leendert and I went for drinks yesterday, to close off the great weekend, and because there was no alarm clock going off this morning, we could make it as late as we wanted.

So, I woke up at noon, and then went swimming with Sara. Weather like this is not that common in Holland this year, so you gotta take advantage of it, right? Sara's coming over tonight for a nice glass of wine. Then tomorrow, Annelies and I are going to Walibi World, which is a great theme park with some pretty rocking rollercoasters.

So, as you can see, as of yet I'm really enjoying my vacation!

Gay Pride Amsterdam

Gay Pride has been absolutely smashing this past weekend! I know I've always said I would never go there, but when a couple of friends decided last week they were going, I gave in and decided to go as well. Boy was I right! I always thought it would be a sort of pathetic raunchy festival, but it was actually brilliant.

The Canal Parade during day time was loads of fun, with so many floats of happy dancing people and really good music! We had some wine and just sat back and relaxed, enjoying the show. One of the boats even played Music Inferno from Madonna's Confessions Tour, so obviously I was all smiles!

Then afterwards we went to the Reguliersdwarsstraat, which is like the center of Amsterdam's gay community. The whole street was one big party, with people dancing on the street all over the place. After dinner, we went back and danced most of the evening.

After a while we met up with Frank, who I still know from a year and a half ago. We had a nice drink together and decided to meet up sometime in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we had to leave early, cause we were staying at a friend of ours who was pretty tired after travelling from Groningen to Amsterdam. Never mind, when we got to his place, I was really tired as well, so I was actually pretty happy to be able to get some sleep.

Today we woke up and had lunch on a terrace somewhere downtown, ate some brilliant eggs benedict and then went shopping. I bought myself this really cool shirt, a very trendy belt and a hat, so I'm wuite happy right now! All in all, a weekend to remember, I can't wait for next year!

Hold On Let Go

Okay, so this may turn out to be a bit embarrassing, but I sort of wrote lyrics to an as of yet non excisting song, that I would like to share with you. I maybe suck in it, but I just thought to give it a go. Use the comment option to let me know what you think of it (even if you absolutely hate it). So here goes:

Hold On Let Go
Without you even knowing it
I've waited all this time
Dreaming of that day to come
The day that you'd be mine
My heart was thirsty for a chance
For you to let me in
I played so long this lottery
Your heart the prize to win

But then I see you
And I'm melting away
The day I first met you
Has been the happiest day
Of my life

Will I ever get there
Asking myself at night
Will my dream have any chance
Turning it into right
Maybe I should forget about it
Maybe I should give up
Close the book and just let go
And call for this to stop

repeat chorus

Hold on, let go, hold on, let go
The love I need to find
Hold on, let go, hold on, let go
I just can't make up my mind

repeat chorus

Lifetime can be fun

It's the start of the month and therefor the busiest time at the office. Eevery time a month has ended, my department jumps into overdrive to get all the financial stuff and management reports done in time, which has a bit of extra pressure in it this time round, since it's my last day before my three week vacation starts. I'm trying to get as much work done as I can before I leave, but I do have to say it's a bit stressful.

So, in order to be all fresh and productive today, I decided to stay in after all yesterday evening. Teaching mrs. Tingle was on television, and it turned out to be quite a nice movie. I mean, not Oscar material to say the least, but nonetheless enjoyable. After that, there was one of those Lifetime kinda programmes called I Shouldn't Be Alive. It's some kind of series depicting events where people survived who had all the odds against them. This time it was about a boat collapsing in the middle of the Atlantic, after which the survivors get stalked by sharks. I won't spoil it for you, but not everyone survived.

So does this sound like a very boring evening to you? That's because it was, but it was still kinda nice. Tonight there won't be a repeat, I'm going for a drink with some friends!

Parade protest

Another workday has passed, meaning in two days I will finally be celebrating my vacation! I've been having a good day, got a lot of work done, and went home before I knew it. I like those days at the office that go by really fast because you're busy enough. Right now of course it's sitcom time (I'm writing this during commercial break), after which I will drag my ass to Hendrik, a student club here in Groningen. Of course I'm not a student anymore, but it's still kinda nice going there.

The only thing that bugs me a little, is not having any plans for the weekend yet. I wanted to go clubbing, but I guess everyone will be at Gay Pride in Amsterdam. Being gay, I don't like those extravagant events because I think they cash in to the stereotypes most unknowing people already have when it comes to gay people. So, as a protest, I never went, even though I guess the parties will be quite nice. It's the canal parade I'm protesting against, but I guess it will be of no use. Anyway, as a result I will probably be stuck at home this Saturday, which is something I'm not that thrilled about. Hopefully someone calls to go clubbing.
