When evaluating the Enrique Iglesias concert last week, I think I know now why I didn't like it: I'm used to concerts being shows, really big shows, with a broadway kind of feeling to them. Huge stages, huge props, a great group of dancers, a huge band, costumes... everything KylieX2008 basically. Enrique approached his concert as... well, just a concert.
To me, the best show there is, is a Kylie Minogue show. I love a lot of things coming close, though. For instance, a P!nk show has everything a Kylie show has, it just doesn't have Kylie, but it's absolutely fantastic! A Take That show is an emotional journey as well, through music and visuals, and they do fucking great!
I've been to non-show-concerts as well: Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette and others. That's okay, some artists you just don't go to because of the show element, you go there because you expect a great vocal concert. Both Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette delivered that, so both of them gave great concerts!
Enrique Iglesias, however, is a pop artist. As a result, I expect to see a pop show, the way I see a fantastic pop show when I go and see Kylie Minogue, or Madonna, or P!nk. Unfortunately, this is not the kind of performance Enrique delivers.
So I'm confused right now: with Enrique Iglesias being a pop act, am I not to expect a pop show?
To me, when pop acts are playing arena's, I'm expecting a show!
