E-mail to Ken Hutcherson

Sometimes I might look like this angry activist, just trying to overthrow anti-gay institutes, no matter what. Although I admit I do believe many times that's the only way to open people's eyes, sometimes it's better to just be calm and civil.

So, what I did was, I wrote an email to Pastor Ken Hutcherson, in light of his recent opinions.

What follows is my e-mail exactly the way I send it to him. If he has the decency to respond, I will post his reaction here. Meanwhile, if you would like to e-mail him as well, I would like to encourage you to do so by clicking here.

Mr. Ken Hutcherson,

I'm very sad to hear of your opposal to President Obama's view on stepping forward on gay rights. It would seem to me that you, as a black pastor, would be supportive of civil rights for everyone.

Unfortunately, you are are one of many who think being gay is a choice and therefore should not be put on the same line of defense as race and color. Shame on you for thinking this way.

If it weren't for the civil rights movement, you would still be required to sit in the back of the bus, and to drink from seperate water fountains. It seems not just odd, but downright madness someone like you would oppose basic civil rights (the right to marry the person you love, the right to receive medical care as a same-sex spouse, etc) that you yourself were so happy to receive just less than a century ago.

I would sincerely endorse you to think about this. Also, I would like to invite you to read a post I wrote about this very subject on my weblog Totally Theo: http://totallytheo.blogspot.com/2009/07/its-civil-rights-issue.html

I'm looking forward to your reaction.

Sincerely,
Theo van Dijk
