It turns out to be a bit of a Madonna day on my site today, but I really wanted to post this. She's definitely doing it again: screwing around with ticket sales.
According to the boxscores, Madonna has sold 27,464 tickets for her two shows at the O2 Arena in London. Madonna calls the shows sold-out. Unfortunately for her, the O2 Arena has an end-stage capacity of about 20.000 to 23.000 (depends on the stage) capacity, so even if we take the low side, 20.000 seats, she should have sold about 40.000 tickets to have these two shows sold out.
Also, her concert at POP Bercy Arena in Paris (pictured above) was declared sold out with 15806 tickets sold. However, during the 2006 Confessions Tour, she sold out with 16939 tickets per show (and I was one of them). Even with a slightly bigger catwalk, this doesn't explain why more than a thousand unsold tickets still can get a show to be called sold-out.
The lying has started once again!
