RIP Michael Jackson

The memorial service is over, leaving us with (well at least leaving me with) mixed feelings. Some parts of the service were very emotional, such as when Michael's daughter Paris said a few words, or when Brooke Shields held her speech.

Other parts were just show, such as Mariah Carey's performance of I'll Be There, which, by the way, I didn't like. Mariah sang it way better at the MTV Unplugged show back in the 90s, which proves again she's really lost it.

There was also a part that irritated me to the max. That part was when Al Sharpton took the stage to deliver an overly 'preachy' speech, going as far as saying Michael Jackson was responsible for setting the stage where Barack Obama could be elected president. Michael Jackson may have been a great singer, and he may have been black once, but I cannot think of anyone who is less of a rolemodel to black people as Michael Jackson has been. Let's get real: someone who tried all of his life to become white, is the last person to be celebrating as a black icon.

Michael Jackson, as he proclaimed later on, wasn't werid... no, it was the world around him who was weird. Give me a break! Again, he was a great singer (although I didn't think he was that great of a singer live, although it was lipsynching most of the time anyway), but the guy was a freaking lunatic as well. Obviously some of this, or maybe all of it, was caused by his wacko family and the fact he was brought up right there in the spotlights, but it doesn't change the fact he was borderline insane.

So, while I feel sorry for his family, as I feel sorry for every family that has recently lost a loved one, I think right now people are turning him into an icon he just simply was not. While he was alive, we all ridiculed him for his weirdness, and now suddenly none of that was ever true?

Still, a great artist has passed. Rest in peace, Michael Jackson.

that same thing has been irritating me this whole time! The same people who said such nasty things about him in the past have suddenly completely flipped and are saying all these wonderful things... it's all so fake, dont any of them have any shame?

Nobody really knows what's the truth. No one has proof about their claims to bring him down. But for sure we've seen some things he'd done for charity specially to the African children. Still we cannot judge him. He may not be perfect, at least he'd done something good and he didn't stand in the spotlight as another spectator waiting for someone to do something good.
I thought he had vitiligo which caused his skin to turn white?

Well, first of all not all of us ridiculed him for his weirdness. So, you're not speaking on my behalf when it comes to that. I think it's pretty easy to judge someone, like you're doing right now, but do you know the whole (true) story? Do you believe everything that you read/see on tv?

And about the lipsynching, I've seen a lot of artists do that including Madonna. Maybe for the best, cause I heard some bad live performances as well (also including Madonna).

I'm not a fan, but I do believe we lost a music icon! Being the star he was when he was younger, in that period of time, was amazing and historical. Selling as much albums as he did was historical. Seeing people emotional and celebrating his existence was historical! So, if that's not an icon...what is?? Maybe you could explain your definition of an icon.

I agree with Suus. People realy talk without knowing the truth about anything. Most reports half the time are false. And the writer of the post "Theo" is truly an idiot. Micahel did have the disease i even have a pic of him where you can see the white patches, plus a magazine once published some pix as well. He is an icon for every color and race. He didn't only give to some charities, he gave to 36 different chrities and he hold the record for doing so. No other celeberty has ever given to that many charities.
In addition, concerning his "weirdness".. he grew up in the sopt light, didn't have a childhood and was beaten by his father. He never had a life or even a moment to himself, everywhere he went he had to vans(of fans) and the papparazzi following him. He was always all over the news(even before is was "weired"), is it realy any wonder he lost his mind? anyone would.
I think some people are mad because he wanted to make the world better and told us what we needed to hear. Like in his song "Earth Song".. he was telling us exactly what we need to hear.
"Man in the Mirror" he almost plain out told us to stop pointing fingers and look at yourself first and he couldn't be more right.
We lost an genuis, icon and a friend.
