It's Friday night, which usually means concert video's night for me (don't worry, I'm not pathetic, I go out on Saturday nights). Tonight is no exception, so I've been watching Kylie's On A Night Like This Tour, P!nk's I'm Not Dead Tour, and now, for the first time in about a year, I'm watching Madonna's Confessions Tour.
Not having seen this in such a long time, I'm actually really surprised... Madonna's face looks so completely different during the Confessions Tour from how she looks during the Sticky & Sweet Tour. And it's only two years... Confessions Tour was in 2006, and Sticky & Sweet is 2008/2009.
I've been to the Confessions Tour 4 times, and to the Sticky & Sweet Tour even 5 times, if you count the Hard Candy Promotional Showcase in. Before that, I've seen her Re-Invention Tour three times, and her Drowned World Tour one time. Up to the Confessions Tour, the differences in Madonna's face were usually just that she was getting a little older, the way we all do. It's natural, and, if you ask me, quite beautiful on most people.
Even during the Hard Candy Showcase, which took place a couple of months before the big tour, Madonna still looked quite natural. It's quite possible she already had some things done, but it wasn't that obvious yet at the time. So, the Hard Candy Showcase was in May (there were three of them, I went to the one at Olympia Music Hall in Paris, thanks to Radio 538), and my first Sticky & Sweet show was in September, and the difference was horrifying.
Madonna just didn't look like a normal person anymore... I remember thinking back then, when Michael Jackson was still alive and well, she started to be like him, obsessively trying to maintain her youth, while starting to look more grotesk in the process. I remember feeling sorry for her, for thinking she should be doing this to remain beautiful. She was beautiful up until the Hard Candy Showcase. Sure, she looked like a 50-year old woman, but she was a 50-year old woman, so what's wrong with that?
Point is, Madonna was so much more beautiful before she resorted to plastic surgery. I'm watching the Confessions Tour DVD tonight, and I'm watching it thinking about how we all said to each other at the Hannover AWD Arena, the POP Bercy Arena in Paris, and two nights at the Amsterdam ArenA how beautiful she looked.
I also remember how last year, at the Amsterdam ArenA, the LTU Arena Dusseldorf, and two nights at the Stade De France Paris, we were all discussing how Madonna was mutilating herself.
It's really a shame... I wish she could just go back to being somewhat of a normal person.
