Refurbishment

My favourite Dutch concert arena, Ahoy Rotterdam, is going through a major refurbishment, starting today! Alderman Hamit Karakus started the modernisation of the arena today, which should be finished in January 2011.

Ahoy will get a new roof, capable of carrying heavier lighting and stage installations. Also, the seated area will get a 3000 additional seats capacity, and the air conditioning, sound system and backstage area's will be refurbished. The picture above is an artist impression of how it's going to look when it's finished.

All of this, of course, is because of some heavy competition coming up. LiveNation has signed an agreement with the new Ziggo Dome, an arena, currently being constructed on the Amsterdam ArenA Boulevard. If LiveNation decides to put every arena show at the Ziggo Dome in the near future, Ahoy Rotterdam could go bankrupt.

I sure hope they will survive. I love concerts at Ahoy Rotterdam, and I'm sure it will look even better after this refurbishment!
