Bye bye, 2009

In some places of the world, the year 2010 has already begun, others, like the Netherlands, are approaching it rapidly, so this is a good time to look back a bit.

2009 has been a great year! Everything went well at work, my family and friends are all healthy and doing fine, I am doing fine myself as well. I've seen loads of great concerts this year, which is of course my biggest hobby.

Hopefully, 2010 will be a great year as well, but I'm sure it will.

For now: have a great New Year's Eve!

State of the day: South Dakota

Halfway through our virtual tour through the United States, here is part 25: South Dakota, nicknamed the Mount Rushmore State. Here are my three favourite things.

1) Obviously, the most famous tourist attraction South Dakota has to offer, is Mount Rushmore. Sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln represent the first 150 years of the history of the United States. It is managed by the National Park Service, a bureau of the United States Department of the Interior. The memorial attracts approximately two million people annually.

2) Black Hills National Forest is located in southwestern South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming. The forest has an area of over 1.25 million acres (5,066 km²) and is managed by the Forest Service. Within the forest is Harney Peak which is the tallest mountain in South Dakota and the highest peak east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. Elk, mule deer, pronghorn, coyote, bighorn sheep, mountain goats and white-tailed deer are commonly seen.

3) Founded in 1880 on the Missouri River opposite Fort Pierre, Pierre has been South Dakota's capital since it gained statehood on November 11, 1889, having been chosen for its location in the geographic center of the state. Pierre lies on rough river bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. Many of these bluffs are strewn with large boulders. It is a few miles away from Lake Oahe, one of the largest man made lakes in the world and a very popular fishing destination.

This is part 25 out of a series of 50, next stop tomorrow: Idaho.

No climb

X Factor winner Joe McElderry's song The Climb may have made it to number one in the UK, but it's not for long. Lady Gaga's Bad Romance climbs to the top spot in the British charts.

Lady Gaga's album, The Fame Monster, by the way, is also number one in the British album charts.

Mission accomplished

Lady Gaga was spotted at nightclub Nobu in Miami yesterday, showing off her new hairstyle. She's turned yellow now, which, I think, doesn't suit her.

It does get her in the tabloids, and of course that's all that matters, so mission accomplished.

Seventeen

Taylor Momsen, who plays Jenny in my favourite show Gossip Girl, is on the cover of Seventeen Magazine. She looks okay... not great, but okay.

Still number one

For the 5th week in a row, Susan Boyle's album I Dreamed A Dream is number one in the American Album charts! Last week she sold another 510.000 copies of the album. There is now a good chance she will have the best selling album (in de USA) of 2009!

Congratulations!

Famous blue raincoat - live in Miami

Last but certainly not least: here's an absolutely gorgeous version of Famous Blue Raincoat, sung by Tori Amos during her Sinful Attraction Tour at The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami, Florida.

Bouncing off clouds - live in Milan

Another fantastic performance by Tori Amos: Bouncing Off Clouds, live at the Teatro Smeraldo in Milan, Italy. Obviously it's the first encore, as it has a really long intro, and Tori walking back on stage.

Cooling - live in Salt Lake City

I could hear Tori Amos sing Cooling all day long and still not get sick of it. What a wonderful song! This version was recorded during the Sinful Attraction Tour, at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. The visuals aren't all that, but the audio is fantastic!

Merman - live in Antwerp

The last day of the year, with four more Tori Amos performances to go! This one's Merman, live at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium, during the Sinful Attraction Tour 2009. It even has a little intro about Antwerp!

Beautiful!

Work it

Meanwhile, hottie Zac Efron was spotted going to the gym in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Now that's a sight we like to see much better than Vanessa Hudgens.

Work it!

Out for coffee

Apparently some people still like Vanessa Hudgens... Former High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale took Vanessa out for a drink at The Coffee Bean in California.

Zac Efron wasn't joining them, and was probably happy Vanessa was gone.

Sticky & sweet

Attention, Dutch Madonna fans: tonight, Nederland 3 will broadcast the entire Buenos Aires show from her Sticky & Sweet Tour. A while ago they already showed an edited version, but this one will be the complete show.

Of course, that doesn't change the fact Madonna's voice has been edited so much she doesn't sound live at all anymore.

The bodyguard

Tonight on Dutch television: The Bodyguard, starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

State of the day: Connecticut

Today, on our virtual tour through the United States of America, we end up in Connecticut, also known as the Constitution State. Here are my three favourite things:

1) Hartford is among the oldest cities in the United States, and following the American Civil War, Hartford took the mantle of the country's wealthiest city from New Orleans. In 1868, Mark Twain exclaimed: "Of all the beautiful towns it has been my fortune to see, Hartford is the chief". Hartford houses several world-class institutions such as the Wadsworth Atheneum and Trinity College. The Hartford-Springfield area has been monikered as New England's Knowledge Corridor for the second largest concentration of institutions of higher learning in New England.

2) The Connecticut River is the largest river in New England, flowing south from the Connecticut Lakes in northern New Hampshire, along the border between New Hampshire and Vermont, through western Massachusetts and central Connecticut into Long Island Sound at Old Saybrook, Connecticut. It has a total length of 407 miles (655 km), and a drainage basin extending over 11,250 square miles (29,100 km2).

3) The Connecticut Panhandle, informally known to locals as the Tail, is in southwestern Connecticut, where it abuts New York State. The irregularity in the boundary is the result of territorial disputes in the late 1600s, culminating with New York giving up its claim to this area, whose residents considered themselves part of Connecticut, in exchange for an equivalent area extending northwards from Ridgefield, Connecticut, to the Massachusetts border as well as undisputed claim to Rye, New York.

This is part 24 out of a series of 50, next stop tomorrow: South Dakota.

Worst actress

Transformers leading lady Megan Fox has been chosen as Worst Actress of 2009 by readers of website Moviefone.com. Her movie Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen was declared both Biggest Dissapointment as well as Worst Movie of 2009.

I haven't seen it yet, but I kinda liked the first movie. Guess I should watch the DVD soon to judge for myself!

Woman of the year

No other than Lady Gaga turns out to be quite the Susan Boyle fan!

"I love Susan Boyle. She is my woman of the year. She has achieved more in this year than most artists will in a lifetime. This time last year nobody even knew who she was and now she is knocking the world's most established artists off the album and singles charts. Our styles are different. I don't know if we could work together, but never say never. It would be great to work with somebody of that talent."

A duet between SuBo and Gaga, now that would be cool!

Just superb

Lily Allen looks absolutely smashing on the cover of the January 2010 issue of the Russian edition of Harper's Bazaar. I don't even care how much photoshop and airbrush was needed to create this image, it's just superb!

Up in smoke

“Whitney seems to go from being a nervous wreck to being completely out of it in a short period of time – just like she did when she was freebasing and using crack cocaine. She is still drinking and with Whitney, alcohol and drugs have always gone hand-in-hand. She’s worked so hard to get back on top. It would be tragic for it to go up in smoke because she can’t stay clean.”

A friend of Whitney Houston claims she might be back on drugs again. That would be a real shame, especially with her comeback tour on its way. This would have been a great chance for her to get her life back together and stay away from the drugs.

Let's hope it's just a rumour!

No more Jonas Brothers

Potential bad news for Jonas Brothers fans! Word on the street is the band has split up (well, of course they will still be brothers, just not musically together anymore). Kevin is married now, and seems to have lost his interest in the music business, and Nick is working on a solo career, leaving Joe somewhat in the dark.

I like their music, so it would be a little sad if the did decide to call it quits, but let's face it: their music is very easily replaceble, so it's not as if the world has lost anything without them being around.

Lust - live in Antwerp

And finally (for today, at least) a great version of Lust, live by Tori Amos, during her Sinful Attraction Tour at Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium.

Precious things - live in Amsterdam

Another performance from a show I was at: a killer rock version of Precious Things, live at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.

Taxi ride - live in Grand Prairie

Next off is this fantastic solo version of Taxi Ride, live at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Horses - live in Groningen

My weekend started today, which puts me in a great mood. Usually, when I'm in a great mood, I like to listen to some great music, so today I present another four performances from Tori Amos' Sinful Attraction Tour 2009.

Here's the first one: Beauty Queen/Horses, filmed live at MartiniPlaza in my hometown Groningen. My mother and I were row 3 during this show, and this was definitely one of the highlights!

Spotted, XOXO

Leighton Meester, who plays Blair Waldorf in my favourite show Gossip Girl, was spotted yesterday, opening the new Miami nightclub Klutch.

She looks great, as usual!

Chocolat

Tonight on Dutch television: Chocolat, starring Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp and Judi Dench.

The end of a showbizz era

What's happening to PerezHilton.com these past couple of weeks, me, and many other people, have been wondering. Well, since it has been revealed Perez Hilton isn't actually writing PerezHilton.com anymore, that makes a lot of sense. It turns out, for a long time already, his sister has been writing his blog, and regular readers (like myself) can spot the differences easily.

Difference number one: I's just not interesting and funny anymore. Number two: hardly any updates whatsoever. Number three: basically every blog item is a copy of something that was actually a news item two or three days ago.

Unfortunately, Perez Hilton has been too busy plugging his book, music tour and music album (all of which have failed, for that matter) to take any interest in his website. As a result, his sister has been taking care of it, which means a minimal amount of updates, and stupid comments

Too bad, he was funny once.

We love the city

Just watching a couple of episodes of Sex And The City makes me understand again why it is the most popular series around me and my friends. Strangely enough, Sex And The City is able to tackle basically every element of dating, or non-dating, or post-dating, there is.

Sex And The City, when it ran on TV, but just as well while watching it back on DVD, had this really scary impact: it was you they were talking about. I mean, while watching them discussing one night stands and relationships that should have been launched, and even relationships that did actually launch, as a viewer you were thinking: yes! It doesn't matter where you live to be a part of the storyline. They may live in New York, and the may be straight women, but they experience the exact same stuff with men I do, and the react exactly the same way. In the end, we all react the same way.

So maybe that's why Sex And The City was such a success: half of the viewers (like me) were living the same way, and the other half wanted to.

I can't wait for the second movie!

Stop the scalpers

This one is for my Dutch readers who like going to concerts as much as I do (it's my perfect night out). LiveNation has started a website that helps you make sure you aren't buying tickets for insane prices from scalpers, suchs as BudgetTicket, OnlineTicketShop, TicketsUnlimited, Pepe Tickets and all the other scumbags.

The LiveNation sponsored website tells you exactly how you can get your tickets through the official channels, so that you won't pay too much, and so that you are sure you actually get valid tickets, which is something that is definitely not guaranteed when you're buying from a scalper.

In other words: a site a concert veteran like myself doesn't need, but someone who goes to the occasional show might find interesting. Click here to go there (it's in Dutch).

Rule the world

Without a doubt, the best song Take That has ever written and recorded: Rule The World. Here's the official video (including scenes from the movie Stardust, for which Rule The World was the official themesong), as well as the lyrics:

You light, the skies up above me
A star, so bright you blind me
Don't close your eyes
Don't fade away
Don't fade away

Yeah you and me we can ride on a star
If you stay with me girl, we can rule the world
Yeah you and me we can light up the sky
If you stay by my side, we can rule the world.

If walls break down, I will comfort you
If angels cry, oh I'll be there for you
You've saved my soul
Don't leave me now
Don't leave me now

Yeah you and me we can ride on a star
If you stay with me girl, we can rule the world
Yeah you and me we can light up the sky
If you stay by my side, we can rule the world.

All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you
For you
All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you
For you,

Yeah you and me we can ride on a star
If you stay with me girl, we can rule the world
Yeah you and me we can light up the sky
If you stay by my side, we can rule the world.

All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you
For you
All the stars are coming out tonight
They're lighting up the sky tonight
For you
For you

Albums of 2009

As the year is almost ending, I thought it would be nice to make my own personal top ten of albums that have been released in 2009. Here we go:

1) Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster
2) Mika - The Boy Who Knew Too Much
3) Tori Amos - Abnormally Attracted To Sin
4) Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You
5) Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted
6) Robbie Williams - Reality Killed The Video Star
7) Rihanna - Rated R
8) The Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D.
9) Jonas Brothers - Lines, Vines And Trying Times
10) U2 - No Line On The Horizon

What are yours? (and remember, this is specifically about albums released in 2009)

Struggle to survive

The orphanage where Madonna adopted Mercy James earlier this year is struggling to raise funds as donors are turned off by the pop star's involvement.

Organisers say potential benefactors wrongly believe that Madonna, 51, pledged thousands of pounds to the Kondanani home in Malawi.

A source said: "We find it a day-to-day struggle to survive. Some days we don't even know if there will be enough food to feed the babies.

"Donors are not giving because they are under the impression Madonna paid us vast amounts of her money."

He added that the Christianrun home wouldn't take her money anyway because of her links with Kabbalah.

Head of the orphanage Annie Chikhwaza said of Mercy's adoption: "I was never offered a penny. I did not expect any either."

Madonna also adopted David Banda from Malawi.

From The Daily Mirror

Another number one

Take That have secured yet another Number One with ‘Take That Present: The Circus Live’.

The DVD, featuring live footage from the show at Wembley Stadium and the guys breathtaking session at Abbey Road Studios, has shot to the top spot, selling over 157,000 in it’s first week alone.

In it’s first day on sale, The Circus Live sold 82,000 copies, making it the fastest-selling music DVD in the UK!

Take That, according to their website, would like to say a big thank you for all of you who bought the DVD and made this happen!

Nice interview

Tori Amos did a nice interview with London Underground based newspaper Metro. Check it out below:

Have you learned how to surf in Cornwall?
It’s too cold for me. But my daughter, Tash, surfs and she loves it.

We’re hardy souls in Britain.
You are hardy souls. They do this crazy thing in Bude where they go out naked on Christmas Day. They all take off their clothes and run in their birthday suits into the water.

Have you found Britain welcoming?
I married a Brit so obviously I like them. I don’t see myself as one, I don’t try to be one. Yet Mark, my husband, and Tash have such Britishness in them I’ve been able to see Britain through their eyes. Their sense of humour is definitely British – droll and sometimes very inappropriate.

Your husband is also your record producer. Do you argue in the studio?
We’re both perfectionists, so we’re vicious but fair. It can make it difficult to walk back in and be lovers. If we’ve had a confrontation in the studio, we’ve made a pact to make up before bedtime, so we always make sure our romance side is protected.

What’s the difference between ‘midwinter’ songs and Christmas songs?
Our ancestors have been celebrating midwinter time for thousands of years all over the world, long before Christianity. Some of the music is beautiful to these carols but they took it from other places and made it religious.

So you’re bringing back a bit of Paganism?
I am. I went to different versions of some carols, way back from before the American Methodists changed the words and made them more PC and puritanical.

You played carols in your father’s church when you were younger, didn’t you?
Yes, I was in all my father’s choirs, even before I could walk.

Did you have to wear robes?
Oh yes, I had the robes. But I always had lip gloss in my pocket.

Did you enjoy the festive season?
I have good memories. I spent so much time in church that I’ve literally gone to church enough for everybody in Britain. But many of my memories are about the cooking. My mother’s side of the family is part Native American and we’d go and see them after my father had preached three services on Christmas Eve. The food… oh, those ladies could cook.

You’ve been critical of past US governments. Are you more hopeful since Obama came in?
I’m a lot more hopeful. The Bush years were really difficult times if you were an American who loved your country. Having someone now that so many people respect doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be problems, but so many problems have been left behind.

How do you feel about Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin almost taking the most powerful jobs in the world?
If Palin runs again, I’m going to run on a Republican ticket. What I know about Middle Eastern policy could fit on a thumbnail, but I still know more than she does. You have to ask, how could a nation nearly vote in somebody who isn’t qualified for the job?

How different would the world be if more women were in power?
We’d bring different things to the table, because of our life experiences. The issue about war, for example, is that when you carry life and give birth to life, the idea of life being taken away, even if it isn’t your own child… there’s a sanctity a lot of women have for life. I think it’s harder to pull the wool over a woman’s eyes and women can be great strategists, so maybe things would be handled differently – statesmanship and negotiating, rather than war.

Talking, rather than fighting?
Yes, but very involved talking. Maybe talking someone to death.

The Taylor's have split

Country singer Taylor Swift and Twilight New Moon hottie Taylor Lautner have ended their relationship, after, well, only three months. According to a mutual friend (what is it with friends of celebrities that makes them all so eager to talk to the press?) he liked her more than she did him.

Millions of teenage girls must be SO thrilled right now!

Sherlock Holmes 2

Guy Ritchie's new movie Sherlock Holmes has been such a huge success in it's first weekend, there have already been talks about a sequel, which is to star no other than Brad Pitt. A source reveals:

"The director, Guy Ritchie, loves Brad. He has worked with him before and thinks he is one of the most underrated actors working today. Guy knows that everyone thinks of as a Pitt as a pretty boy and can't wait to turn him into the world's greatest supervillain. It will definitely make the sequel a must-see."

It must be killing to Madonna to see her ex-husband making a bunch of flops during their marriage, and now the first film he directs since the divorce, is a box-office hit. Maybe she was jinxing him?

Like a princess

Jonas Brothers star Kevin Jonas and his newlywed bride Danielle are on the cover of this week's issue of People Magazine. Not only that, inside the magazine, they talk about their wedding as well:

Kevin, 22, revealed to People: “I knew that my princess needed her glass slippers and her castle.”

Danielle said: “I always wanted my wedding to have that princess feel. I couldn’t have imagined this.”

Cute!

This is hot?!

And they call him sexy because...? Twilight New Moon star Robert Pattinson was spotted with his sister in London, looking like a homeless person. How long has it been since his face actually came into contact with a shaver?

I'd have Zac Efron over him any time!

Get the party started - live in Amsterdam

Another performance from P!nk's I'm Not Dead Tour at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam: Get the Party Started. As with the previous clip, the sound quality of the recording isn't fantastic, but it gives you an idea of how much fun the show was.

Stupid girls - live in Amsterdam

The first time I saw P!nk perform live, was on December 6 at the Heineken Music Hall, during her I'm Not Dead Tour. Watch Stupid Girls, filmed that night, above!

Voting arena

Thank you to the 16 people who voted on last week's poll 'Who's your favourite Spice Girl?'. Here are the results:

Geri Halliwell - 5 votes
Victoria Beckham - 3 votes
Melanie Chisholm - 2 votes
Emma Bunton - 4 votes
Melanie Brown - 2 votes

My new poll is somewhat European orientated, but if applicable, of course people from outside of Europe are just as welkom to vote as well. Since I'm such a concert freak, I would like to know your favourite European concert arena. Choose from:

O2 Arena - London
MEN Arena - Manchester
POP Bercy - Paris
Ahoy - Rotterdam
Sportpaleis - Antwerp
O2 World - Berlin
Palau Sant Jordi - Barcelona
Mediolanum Forum - Milan
Pavilhão Atlântico - Lisbon

Just so you know: I voted for POP Bercy, simply because of the arena's mentioned it's my favourite (of the onces I actually had the pleasure of visiting). However, I bet once I set one foot in the O2 Arena in London, that will instantly become my favourite.

Profiling is needed

Although of course most comments on WND*Mart are downright insane, every once in while their moderators actually let a comment that makes some sense through. Today, there was one:

Yes! Profiling is needed

A full 100 percent of white supremacists are white conservatives; 100 percent of abortion bombers are white conservatives and 100 percent of angry, uneducated, racist teabaggers are white conservatives.

Joe King

Well said!

State of the day: North Carolina

It's the 23th day of our virtual tour through the United States (wow, time travels fast when you're having fun), and today we find ourselves in North Carolina, nicknamed Tar Heel State. Here are my three favourite things:

1) Bodie Island is a long, narrow barrier peninsula that forms the northernernmost portion of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The peninsula is home to two lighthouses, Bodie Island Light and Currituck Beach Light. The Wright Brothers National Monument also has a beacon and is found on the peninsula. Jockey's Ridge is the tallest sand dune in on the East Coast and is found on the peninsula as well. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore protects the southernmost part of Bodie Island and Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park protect portions of the Virginia part of the peninsula.

2) The Brushy Mountains are a mountain range located in northwestern North Carolina. The Mountains are primarily known for their abundance of apple orchards, and the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival is held in North Wilkesboro.

3) A little girl, Myra Ellen Amos, was born on August 22, 1963 in Newton, North Carolina. She started to play piano early on in her life, and after a while, she changed her first name and became one of the most recognized singer-songwriters in the world. I'm talking, of course, about Tori Amos, one of my favourite singers of all time. I've seen her perform live 9 times now, and every show keeps getting better and better. North Carolina can be proud to have such a great singer as their native!

This is part 23 out of a series of 50, next stop tomorrow: Connecticut.

Hey Jude

Congratulations to Jude Law, who turns 38 today. After the bizarre year he's been having, I'm sure he could do with a nice party today.

Deep impact

Tonight on Dutch television: disaster movie Deep Impact, starring Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood and Robert Duvall.

Back to black

Usually when Britney Spears does something drastic to her hair (like, shaving it off), it means she's gone back to her crazy self. So, now that she's painted it black yesterday, one might wonder what's coming up next for her.

A mental breakdown? Smashing into a car with an umbrella? Been there, done that.... hopefully she comes up with a new hysterical way to make a total fool out of herself.

At the movies

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens went to see James Cameron's movie Avatar at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles. They may have tried to fool the press into thinking they were just regular people, but of course the paparazzi wasn't to be fooled.

Too bad Vanessa's still around. Isn't it way past her due date?

SpiceWorld Tour

11 Years ago, the first stadium concert I ever saw in real life, was the SpiceWorld Tour (by, obviously, the Spice Girls) at Gelredome Stadium in Arnhem. As would happen with many shows in the future, I was front row center, and loved every second of it. So, when today I noticed on Play.com the SpiceWorld Tour has been released on DVD (filmed at Wembley Stadium in London), I immediately ordered it!

It will sure bring back great memories!

Offensive weapons

Russia needs to develop "offensive strike systems" to preserve strategic balance with the United States, without producing its own missile defense, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

"If we want to retain the balance, we have to establish an exchange of information: Let the U.S. partners provide us information on [their] missile defense while we will give them information on [our] offensive weapons," Putin said.

Putin also spoke positively about ongoing negotiations between the two countries on a new nuclear arms control agreement that would replace the U.S.-Russian START treaty, which expired December 5.

The United States and Russia plan to complete it and sign it at the beginning of 2010, Russian and American leaders have said. As envisioned, the new treaty would significantly reduce nuclear arms on both sides.

"I think that we need certain rules on weapons limitation which could be equally understood, easily verifiable and transparent," Putin said. "The existence of those rules is better than their absence."

I'm in a book

This is weird... my co-worker Gerben send me an email this morning, telling me my picture is in a book. It's called Briefgeheimen, and contains anonymous postcards, send in by readers. Those readers reveal a secret on their cards, and make up some layout for themselves.

Anyway, my picture is on a card by someone who says they are making up imaginary friends. It's not just my picture either, but a couple of them, clearly cut out of magazines. I remember this actual picture of mine. It was used two years ago when I was interviews by magazine Flair, when Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour came to the Amsterdam ArenA. Someone must have like it and used it in this card.

Isn't that weird?

Sex and the city

Once in a while, I like re-watching certain movies or television series, so buying DVDs is definitely money well spend for me. Today, I started watching the entires Sex And The City series from the start. Last week, my friend Sandra and I watched the movie for the 7658719587th time, so then I thought it would be nice to watch all 6 seasons of the television show as well.

So, this evening, I watched the first 4 episodes, and loved them just as much as I did the first time I saw them. It will be a pleasure watching the entire run, a couple of episodes per day!

Hot hot hot

Bundled in the warmest jacket he could find, Zac Efron checks out the 2009 USPA World Snow Polo Championship held at Warner Park in Aspen, Colorado last week. Even in clothes like these he looks hot as hell! How do some people do it?

Jaws - the trailer

This is pretty cool: check out the original trailer for one of the best movies ever made: Jaws, by Steven Spielberg.

See you at the O2

Since hopefully in 2010 I will be able to see Kylie Minogue's next tour at the O2 Arena in London, I decided to take a look at their official site, and see what's going on at The O2. Care to take a tour with me? Here we go!

More than 20.000 people fit into the O2 Arena during a pop concert, so naturally only the biggest selling artists come to play here. After all, it would be a bit embarassing to play in front of a half empty arena (take a note of that, Backstreet Boys). With perfect sight-lines from every angle, crystal clear acoustics, obscenely comfy seating, wide concourses between aisles and a huge variety of snack and drink options to enjoy throughout the show. They've even put paid to that excruciatingly painful and frustrating tradition of the “fifty minute queue for the loo” by fitting 548 toilets.

If you happen to be hungry, or looking for a drink, there are literally dozens of places to go to inside the arena. There's Nestle's Take A Break, Sound Bites Grill, Beck's Vier Bar, Two Degrees Bar, O2 Blueroom, Sandwhich Filling Station, Chop Chop Stir Fry, Carve Up, Salt + Vinegar Fish And Chips and Base Pizzera to choose from. In other words, something for everyone. Furthermore, there are 4 different locations to get official merchandise of the artist or band performing.

Seating is devided into three different area's Floor, to be seated as close to the stage as possible, Lower Tier, and for those who don't mind sitting up high: Upper Tier and Upper Bowl. Of course, when I visit the O2 Arena, I want to have Floor seats.

I can't wait to visit the O2 Arena! There's a reason why it's officially the most popular venue in the world!

The climb

Rage Against The Machine may have gotten the Christmas #1 last week, thanks to a Facebook petition. but X Factor winner Joe McElderry's single The CLimb did manage to (how appropriate) climb to the number one spot this week.

It sold 195729 copies in it's second week, rightfully claiming the top spot. I giess congratulations are in it's place, but still, I don't agree on having X Factor winners at number one all the time.

State of the day: Georgia

Today, on our virtual tour through the United States of America, we're visiting Georgia, nicknamed the Peach State. Here are my three favourite things:

1) The Georgia coast is a haven for all kinds of animals. Popular saltwater game fish include red drum, spotted seatrout, flounder, and tarpon, among many others. Porpoises, whales, shrimp, oysters, and blue crabs are found inshore and offshore of the Georgia coast. As a result, diving is something special, and one is bound to come face to face with some interesting animals.

2) Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the state of Georgia, as well as the urban core of one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States. Atlanta is the world headquarters of The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T Mobility, and Delta Air Lines. The surrounding area contains additional corporate headquarters, including Home Depot and UPS. Atlanta has the country's third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies along with Chicago inside city boundaries, and more than 75 percent of the Fortune 1000 companies have a presence in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Everytime - 'live' in Melbourne

Britney Spears fans tried to trick the audience into thinking she was singing at least one song live during her The Circus Starring Britney Spears Tour. The song they were talking about is ballad Everytime, but judging by this video, recorded at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, it's totally lipsync just as the rest of the 'show'.

I'm in Miami, bitch

Rihanna was spotted at the airport in Miami, Florida, where she arrived after spending Christmas in Barbados (where she is originally from). She looks a bit angry, but who wouldn't be after spending ages waiting for the border control to let you in.

Last season

Finally, after five seasons, Tyra Banks is ending that horrible talkshow of hers, it has been announced today.

“This will be the last season of The Tyra Show, I’ve been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years. My next huge steps will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are. There’s a lot cooking right now and a lot of fire burning in my heart. And I salute you my amazing family of viewers; without you there never would have been a Tyra Show. I really love you all.”

Please, just leave the spotlight altogether.

Teen Vogue

Jessica Szohr, who plays Vanessa in Gossip Girl, is on the cover of next month's Teen Vogue magazine. She looks okay, but not as good as she could. Did Teen Vogue fire their airbrushing artists or something?

Anyway, she my least favourite character in Gossip Girl, so I don't mind.
