American music awards

The American Music Awards, held on November 22, is having an amazing lineup of singers! Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys will all perform.

November is a good month for awardshows! First the MTV Europe Music Awards this Thursday, and then the AMA's at the end of the month!

This is it, tanking

Michael Jackson's concert movie This Is It may have made a big start last weekend, but the rest of the week it has basically been tanking at the box office. What's going on? He could sell out 50 O2 Arena shows, why aren't people seeing his movie?

Me, I just wait for the DVD. I've never been that big of a Michael Jackson fan, so I can do without seeing This Is It on the big screen.

Already working on it

Although the All I Ever Wanted Tour runs until March 2010 (I'll be seeing the show at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam). Kelly Clarkson is already working on her 5th album!

"If I end up liking stuff that I've done then I'll include it, but if I like other stuff better I'll use that. Sometimes you're just more inspired I guess, and sometimes if you have records that come really close together it might be more other people's songs. Because there's not enough time to write and sing and perform and do everything."

Coolness! Since I'll be attending one of the last shows of the tour, maybe she'll do one or two of the new songs by then? That would be awesome!

Savvy

Avril Lavigne is on the cover of Savvy Magazine, looking good! I wish she would release a new album! The Best Damn thing was her best so far, and I could really use another one!

Perfect pop

This afternoon I've been listening to a couple of Jennifer Lopez albums, namely This Is Me...Then and On The 6. Really, it's too bad Jennifer isn't making records like those anymore. All through my college years we've been dancing to J.Lo's beats at our local gay club Golden Arm. Jennifer was like a house resident, she was always there with some hit single.

Songs like Let's Get Loud, Waiting For Tonight, If You Had My Love, Jenny From The Block... I never grow tired of them. I really hope one day she will release another one of those perfect pop records!

Second time

Katy Perry did a cool photoshoot to promote the MTV Europe Music Awards, this Thursday at O2 World in Berlin. It's the second time she's presenting the awards, after last year at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. So far, Katy's the only person who has ever been asked twice to host the show, so it's quite an honour!

Working in darkness

Madonna has promised electricity to a village in Malawi, the impoverished southern African country where she runs a charity organization and from which she has adopted two children.

Speaking in Mphandula, some 30 miles from Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, the singer said Thursday: "I know you work in darkness. I will bring you electricity."

Madonna's Raising Malawi charity already has donated $500,000 for a child care center in the village that feeds and educates 3,000 orphaned children.

Madonna arrived in Malawi on Sunday accompanied by her four children. On Monday she broke ground for her $15-million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.
About 500,000 children in this nation of 12 million have lost a parent to AIDS.

Halloween

Given what day it is today, what movie would be more appropriate than Halloween? Dutch television is broadcasting it tonight, although unfortunately it's the 2008 Rob Zombie remake, without scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis.

Still, it will probably make for a nice, albeit scary, watch!

Ready for children

Shakira has told the press she is ready to have children. 'I feel like my body wants to pro-create', she said in an interview. Shakira has been in a relationship with Antonio de la Rúa for years now. Antonio is the son of Argentina's ex-president Fernando de la Rúa.

Hood, if she starts having children, will she finally give up singing? Now that would be great news!

Intimate concert

Michael Bublé was in Amsterdam yesterday, performing an intimate concert at De Smet, to promote his new album Crazy Love. The performance was recorded for radio, and Michael sounds perfect during the show.

What a difference in size from the huge Gelredome concert he will do next year!

Telekids

This is just way too cool for Dutch people: out of 20 years of RTL programs, Telekids was voted the most popular of all times!

When I was a student, I liked nothing better than waking up early on a Saturday morning to watch Telekids. Stuff like Pittige Tijden, De Vliegende Ouwe Taart, Ditjes En Datjes and Spotlight... Priceless!

In Malawi

Please stop sending me your SPAM mails immediately. I find it very ironic you have published an 'article' claiming the White House is sending email to people who only left their e-mail because of them responding to an 'article', while in fact you are doing the exact same thing.

Lifestyle choices

Every once in a while, a comment slips through the hands of the moderators at One"News"Now that's just too good to be true! Today was one of those days! Remember how conservative Christians forever whine about how being gay (oops, make that homosexual, as they so lovingly like to call it) is just a lifestyle choice, and therefor doesn't need any federal protection? In other words, according to them an employer can fire an employee at any time, just for being gay. It is, after all, just a lifestyle choice, right?

Well, tonight they ran an 'article' about a guy who got fired at Home Depot for refusing to take down his 'In God We Trust' button while at work (mind you, Home Depot enforces a strict dress code, so firing this guy was a perfectly logical thing to do).

So, what did one of their readers post as a comment:

Wow. Thankfully we have civil rights laws on the books so that Mr. Keezer can sue Home Depot for terminating him illegally. I'm wholly on Mr. Keezer's side on this. His choice to be, and behave as, a Christian is a fundamental part of his identity, and it's wrong to discrimate against him because he has made that lifestyle choice. Hmmmm... sounds like I could apply that line of reasoning to something else, but I can't think of what right now. I'm sure it will come to me.

Fantastic! I love this person! There may be not a lot of people on One"News"Now who actually have the abillity to think for themselves, but this person is definitely one of them!

Scheduling conflicts

Bad news for Robbie Williams fans, and, actually, it could be bad news for Robbie Williams himself as well: he has pulled out of the MTV Europe Music Awards, next week at O2 World in Berlin, Germany.

The official reason is 'scheduling conflicts', but that's just a decoy record companies use for anything from drug overdoses to unwanted pregnancies, so there's no reason to trust any of that.

This could prove to be a mayor setback in Robbie's planned comeback. The MTV Europe Music Awards get watched by millions of viewers around the world, so it would have meant some very heavy exposure.

Not a smart move, if you ask me.

A gossip carol

There's rumours going around, saying Gossip Girl will have a specially themed Christmas Carol episode, staged like the original story by Charles Dickinson, but using the Gossip Girl characters instead.

How cool would that be? A Christmas Carol is a great story, and Gossip Girl is like the best TV show EVER, so this would be a total win win situation!

The dolls will return

It's official: the current version of the Pussycat Dolls is over and done with, as everyone basically knew already. However, there may be a new bunch of girls making sure the Pussycat Dolls branch gets lived on. Says original member Kimberly Wyatt:

Here's the thing. I think the Pussycat Dolls was always created as a brand, and it will always be that way. No matter what happens, the Pussycat Dolls will always be around.

Best European act

Dutch singer Esmée Denters is one of the nominees for Best European Act during next week's MTV Europe Music Awards, and she's got a very special fan!

Justin Timberlake himself is publicly promoting Esmée, using Twitter to tell his fans to vote for her. He do needs to do a lot of extra promotion though, cause as I'm writing this Esmée Denters is not even in the top 5.

I've seen her perform as pre-show to Enrique Iglesias' concert at Ahoy Rotterdam, and I can't say I was impressed. Even though she's Dutch, if it were up to me, she wouldn't win.

A charitable ripoff

Madonna's charitable giving is a little less spectacular than we might have thought earlier... Yesterday she said she'd match every dollar donated to her Raising Malawi charity, right? Thats every dollar matched. Not doubled. Also, the disclaimer states that the total contribution by Madonna herself will not exceed $100,000. So if her fans donate $280,000,000 (The gross revenue of Madonna's latest world tour), she will only donate $100,000 herself.

'Raising Malawi' founded by Madonna and two others three years ago held fund raisers for over two years before finally getting registered as a non-profit. In other words, Madonna and the others were free to squander the lion's share of that funding any way they saw fit for those first two years. She also pleaded with her fans worldwide for donations along the way. In the meantime, she toured the world to promote her latest CD and raked in another $280,000,000 in just over 12 months. To date, the basic financial info for 'Rasing Malawi' still hasn't been posted on the website or anywhere else. The 'progress' page only tells of the collective works by over 20 seperate charities. Each of which have their own sources of funding and may have recieved some sort of promotion or support from 'Raising Malawi' in order to be considered 'partners'. But no indication is made how much of their funding came from 'Raising Malawi' or how much of their progress if any could be directly attributed to 'Raising Malawi'. The fans/donors have no clue how many millions of dollars were raised in that first two years, no clue how much Madonna herself chipped in, and no clue how the money was spent before they finally registered as a non-profit. No clue what tiny little fraction of funding or works listed on that 'progress' page could be directly attributed to 'Raising Malawi'. Nothing to go on but the vague word of Madonna.

'Rasing Malawi' still hasn't been given any kind of rating by ANY independent charity watchdog like Charitywatch.org. The vast overwhelming majority of 'celebrity' foundations never are. In general, they are inneficient and riddled with corruption. Like the promotion of CDs, world tours, commercial websites, entire lines of jewelry (not just the single piece from which proceeds are donated), and high end fashion retail flagship stores. Celebrity foundations are also notorious for squandering much of their funding on travel and super high end accomodations for their celebrity figure heads. Its legal but not noble or efficient by any stretch of the imagination. In general, 'celebrity' foundations are a twisted inefficient mutant of charity and PR crap. So if its not rated, then don't support it. Instead, support a top rated charity like those given high ratings at Charitywatch.org

RIP Taylor Mitchell

Canadian folk singer Taylor Mitchell was killed this week by a group of coyotes.

The young girl was hiking alone on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park this week when she was confronted by two coyotes. Several other hikers in the area heard her screams and cries for help and immediately called 911. When help arrived, she was airlifted to a hospital, but at that point she was already in critical condition.

A few days before her death Mitchell was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for Young Performer of the Year.

Sad news.

Eat the cat

This is pretty insane... Some deranged Miley Cyrus fan is threatening to eat his cat, if Miley doesn't return to Twitter:

"The other day I asked myself: 'What can I do to bring Miley back to Twitter?' Fan video? Petitions? Letters? That never works. Heck, Miley even made her own video about never wanting to use Twitter again. Then I looked at my cat, Fuzzy and I realized, maybe Fuzzy can help. Fuzzy can make the ultimate sacrifice for this cause. It was very difficult for me, you see, as I sincerely love Fuzzy. But my mind is made up. I could always get another cat, but nothing can replace Miley's tweets for me!"

Lady Gaga's The Monster Ball Tour is coming to Europe! Well, she's coming to the United Kingdom and Ireland anyway. The Lady is doing arena shows all through Great Britain, so probably there will be a European mainland tour following soon!

National anthem

Alanis Morissette will be singing the National Anthem at Game 5 of the World Series, scheduled for Monday, November 2nd.

I didn't even know she was still having a singing career. It's like she kinda slipped of the map after her Under Rug Swept album. Is she still making records, or just singing some of her old songs now and again?

I would love for her to record a killer new album, something the likes of Jagged Little Pill, and make a huge comeback.

New job

A new job for Jason Beitel, now that Kylie Minogue's North American tour is over with: he will tour with Chaka Kahn, Anastacia and Lulu on their Here Come The Girls Tour!

Good for him to get a job on a big tour once again! We'll be seeing a lot of him in the next years, that's for sure!

Swept away

Also on Dutch television tonight: Swept Away. Probably the worst movie Madonna has ever made (directed by her then-husband Guy Ritchie). As you know, Madonna's movies suck big time alltogether, so for this one to stand out as even worse, really says something.

Hairspray

Tonight on Dutch television: Hairspray, starring Zac Efron, and a bunch of other people (who cares about them when Zac is in it).

My new future husband

Since watching Pearl Harbor yesterday, I've decided that if for some reason Zac Efron, Jason Beitel, Mika, Jason Orange, Orlando Bloom, Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford become unavailable, I would like to marry Josh Hartnett.

Tear down this wall

Next week, on Thursday November 5, U2 will do a free performance in Berlin, in memory of the Berlin Wall, that fell 20 years ago. The performance will be part of the MTV Europe Music Awards, but it will not take place at O2 World, where the rest of the awardshow will be held.

Instead, U2 will perform at Brandenburger Tor, which of course is a much more historic place for such a tribute to take place.

Tickets for the event can be obtained through the official U2 site.

Holland wins

For the third year in a row, Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren has been crowned Best DJ Of The World by DJ Magazine. Armin responded by saying he's the happiest man on the world, and he would like to thank his fans for all their support..

It's always great (for me, as a Dutch guy) when people from the Netherlands win big international prizes, so congratulations!

Crazy love tour

Michael Bublé is coming to the Netherlands! On May 19 the lovely Canadian singer will perform at Gelredome Stadium in Arnhem, as part of his Crazy Love Tour.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday, October 30, through LiveNation and Eventim. They are bound to sell out quickly, so make sure you're glued to the computer around 10 AM CET if you want to get yourself some tickets.

Also, beware of scalpers, don't by from scam sites such as BudgetTicket, PePe Tickets, Tickets Unlimited and so on. They only official ticketsites are LiveNation and Eventim.

Madonna has recorded and released a special video concerning her Raising Malawi charity, telling her fans that every dollar they give to the organisation, will be doubled by her.

No role model

According to reuters press agency, Miley Cyrus, star of Disney show Hannah Montana, is considered the worst celebrity influence on kids in 2009. That's right, the worst...

Although Miley may have slipped a little bit into the raunchy zone, you'd think there are a lot worse role models around, wouldn't you? Just think Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Madonna even.

Miley should be careful though, not to piss of her Disney audience, as she can be replaced with a new aspiring girl in a blink of an eye.

Get out of the freakshow

Star Magazine is running a cover story this week, claiming the marriage between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is over. Well if only! Katie Holmes started looking and acting more and more like a freak since she married Tom and his Scientology cult. She would probably be way better off without him.

Unfortunately, Star Magazine has a tendency of publishing stories that are absolute rubbish, so there's a pretty big chance none of this is true.
