Buenos Aires... capital of Argentina, city of Evita and home to around 13 million people. Reason enough to pay the city a visit. Here are my three highlights:
1) La Casa Rosada (the Pink House) is the official seat of the executive branch of the government of Argentina, and of the offices of the President. The Casa Rosada sits at the eastern end of the Plaza de Mayo, a large square which since the 1580 foundation of Buenos Aires has been surrounded by many of the most important political institutions of the city and of Argentina. It is from this palace's balcony Evita Peron gave her famous speechless.
2) The Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral is the main Catholic church in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is located in the city centre, overlooking Plaza de Mayo, on the corner of San Martín and Rivadavia streets, in the San Nicolás neighbourhood. It is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires. The Cathedral of Buenos Aires was rebuilt several times since its humble origins in the 16th century. The present building is a mix of architectural styles, with a 18th century nave and dome and a severe, 19th century Neoclassical façade without towers. The interior keeps precious 18th century statues and altarpieces, as well as abundant Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque decoration.
3) The Obelisk of Buenos Aires is a modern monument placed at the heart of Buenos Aires. The obelisk was built in May 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first founding of the city. It is located in the center of the Plaza de la República, the spot where the Argentine flag was flown for the first time in Buenos Aires. The obelisk is one of the main icons of the city, and a venue for various cultural activities (usually sponsored by the city government) and other events. It is the traditional gathering spot for sports fans to celebrate when their favourite team wins, especially from the national football team, often resulting in colorful events that attract media coverage. It was also used by several acrobatic troupes to perform high-wire acts.
This is part 14 out of a series of 50. Next city tomorrow: Cairo.

I can´t say anything about the Metropolitan Cathedral since that was the one place I did not visit. however, the pink house as you call it is very impressive and sofisticated, even though it looks old, it is not on the inside.
The obelisk is the most important monument and it has a great history behind it. It is a MUST if you are going to BA. But there are some other thing you didnñt mention like the Recoleta Cemetery, the Botanical Garden and the neighborhood of La Boca. Very nice places where you can spend the whole day enjoying thier beauty. I was looking to rent apartments buenos aires since I wanted to stay in Argentina for two months. Fortunately I found one and had the best time ever.
Cheers,
Summer
