End of an era?

Although I think competition is always good, as it keeps everyone fresh, I'm afraid the new Ziggo Dome (artist impression of the exterior pictured above), that's being build on the Arena Boulevard in Amsterdam as we speak, may well have the power to drive Ahoy Rotterdam, one of my favourite concert venues, out of business.

Better said, I think LiveNation will use Ziggo Dome, with which they've already signed a contract, so often, they won't need Ahoy anymore. You see, Ziggo Dome will have a capacity of around 15.600 people, while Ahoy seats only about 10.000. What this means is that when an artist sells out quickly in Ahoy, but not quickly enough to justify a second night, LiveNation will have to let fans down. With the Ziggo Dome, they can come closer to maximum capacity with only a single show.

Aside from that, I think artists will like the fact the Ziggo Dome is situated in Amsterdam. It does look better on tour shirts... New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Amsterdam... Who knows about Rotterdam outside of the Netherlands?

It already happened in London. Since the O2 Arena is around, Wembley Arena and Earls Court Arena are getting far less concerts than before. Now of course, the O2 Arena is a great venue, so I can understand why people would want to go there, and I'm sure the Ziggo Dome will be a great venue as well, but I will always miss 'my' Ahoy, where I've seen so many great shows.
