You know people are getting desperate when they're using children to enhance their own agenda.
Lisa Miller, a Virginia woman, is the mother of a seven-year-old girl named Isabella. Lisa was in a loving relationship with another woman named Janet Jenkins, so they raised the child together. For the first year of Isabella's life, Lisa and Janet maintained a relationship, even traveling to Vermont to obtain a civil union. Unfortunately, their relationship eventually didn't work out, and so they split up. Lisa then kidnapped the little girl, who was raised for the passed several years by her and Janet, to Virginia.
Initially, Isabella was taken to Janet for visitation, but after a while, Lisa, who was now fully indoctrinated by the Christian Right, refused to give visitation rights. Of course her church told her gays and lesbiand were to burn in hell and the usual other stuff no-one gives a shit about anyway. This is where the judge came in. Vermont's highest court has ordered that Lisa surrender Isabella to the authorities, who will then give custody to Janet as the rightful parent.
Since then, Christians have been using this story as a propaganda item for their nonstop gaybashing agenda (sure we'll go to hell, whatever...) and as far as I can track down on the internet, they didn't even ask if they could use her name. Of course, Christians are above the law and can do whatever they want... In fact, when it comes to gaybashing, I think Christians really do believe they are above the law, which is one of the reasons no-one gives a damn about them anymore.
There's a lot more to this story than I can possibly write here, but the thing is this: Christian Right is trying to turn this into another story on how they are right and we (and with 'me', the rest of the world is basically meant, as Christian Right is nothing less than the Taliban of America) while they would completely agree with this story is the other person in this relationshiop would have been an adoptive male parent.
So there you have it: Christian tolerance at its best! I'm so glad religious influence is fading year after year! It won't be too long when people are finally freed from religion. That will be a great day indeed!
