Loss leader

American TV station owners are actually glad Oprah Winfrey is quitting her show, because it costs them too much money to keep it on air:

“Oprah’s ratings have eroded so much that the image of Oprah is much stronger than the reality of Oprah, either as a news lead-in or as a money-maker. In many cases, Oprah is a stunning loss leader. There are people who are deeply thankful she is calling it quits.”

I'm actually glad to see it go as well. These past couple of years, it has been nothing but rubbish.

Bond goes Gaga

Yes, yes, yes! Guess who's asked to be the singer (and writer) of the next James Bond theme song? No other than Lady Gaga! The new movie will be out in 2011, and producers have already asked Gaga to sing the main theme.

That will be a huge hit!

How's that for irony

"I did a line for H&M, which I enjoyed, but it was a lot of work. I thought, I don't want to give up the rest of my careers, so I'm not going to do my own line again. But I have a 13-year-old with tireless energy who wanted to do this. I’ve been involved in business meetings, but Lola's really doing the work. I just sit in the corner on my BlackBerry! Her style is inspired by kids she sees in hip-hop and ballet classes, European influences, bands she listens to. You could say it's in the DNA — but I could never tell her how to dress! She also comes to my photo and video shoots, pulls outfits together and gives her input to a lot of my fashion-designer friends. Whether it’s Marc Jacobs or Stella McCartney, they always ask her what she thinks. If anything, I wish she'd dress more conservatively. How's that for irony?"

Madonna, desperately trying to make us believe either she or her daughter Lourdes is having anything to do with her upcoming fashion line.

Remove the nets

This Summer, because of increased security for the FIFA World Cup tourists coming to South Africa, hundreds of sharks are going to die in nets around the South African beaches.

While it is of course important the tourists are safe, the fact remains that stepping into the ocean means you are getting yourself into the territory of the sharks. In other words, it is completely unfair we humans are killing sharks in nets because we want to swim in their ocean. If that swim is so important to you, you should accept the risk, or simply not get into the water.

That said, please take a moment to sign this petition against shark netting on the South African coast. Click here to sign. Please pick the option 'I am planning on visiting KZN'. That way they know that potential tourists will rethink visiting their country if they continue to use these barbaric ways of killing sharks.

Don't forget to put in a valid e-mail adress, as you will be asked to confirm your signature through a follow-up e-mail. You will not be spammed and it will only take a minute.

Thank you!

10x Male singers

And of course, if I'm to do a Top 10 Female singers, I need to do a Top 10 Male singers as well. I have to admit, this one was a lot more difficult for me, as I usually listen to female singers. And just so that could include them, I reckoned Take That, as an all-male band, were allowed in this category. Okay, here we go:

1) Mika
2) Take That
3) Robbie Williams
4) Justin Timberlake
5) John Mayer
6) James Morrison
7) Eminem
8) Jay-Z
9) Ronan Keating
10) Enrique Iglesias

Again, who are yours?

10x Female singers

I haven't done this top ten before: my favourite female singers. It was rather difficult, so I'm just going to name my ten favourites, and apart from the Top 3, you shouldn't take notice of their position. Okay, here we go:

1) Kylie Minogue
2) Lady Gaga
3) Tori Amos
4) P!nk
5) Celine Dion
6) Kelly Clarkson
7) Madonna
8) Alanis Morissette
9) Jennifer Lopez
10) Rihanna

Who are yours?

More Twilight

Stephenie Meyer, the writer of The Twilight Saga, is releasing a novella based on the storyline of Twilight: Eclipse, called 'The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner'

It apparently revolves around a vampire featured in Eclipse, and will hit the shelves on June 5. However, since neither the characters of Edward (Robert Pattinson), Bella (Kristin Stewart) or Jacob (Taylor Lautner) are in the story, it will be a bit of a letdown compared to the original Twilight stories.

Bar Soho

Whenever I'm in London (which hasn't been enough these past couple of years), one of the things I really enjoy doing, is having a drink at Bar Soho in Old Compton Street. So, when I'm back in London some time during this Summer (since I'm hoping for Kylie Minogue to tour and play at the O2 Arena), I'll definitely go back for a nice relxed glass of wine or a cold pint!

Click here to check out their website for some more pictures!

Hadron collider

The Large Hadron Collidor (LHC) was started up today, the first collisions have taken place, and the world didn't end up in a black hole, as some had feared. Scientists at CERN in Genève were cheering and clapping when the machine worked and everything went well, after two false starts this morning.

I wonder what they will find!

A very happy birthday to Celine Dion, who turns 42 today!

From the set

This picture from the set of Robert Pattinson's new movie Bel Ami has just been released. It was taken in Budapest, Hungary, and shows Robert together with co-star Kristin Scott-Thomas.

Great white

Nature photographer Geoff Spiby took this picture of a Great White Shark near Cape Town, South Africa. Pretty scary looking picture, isn't it? When attacked by a Great White, this must be one of the last things you'll ever see...

Behind the scenes

Thanks to Kylie Minogue's official website, here's a behind the scenes video, filmed during her Fashion Targets Breast Cancer 2010 photoshoot, which was shot in London last month with renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino!

Deep rising

Tonight on Dutch television: Deep Rising, starring Fame Janssen. I've seen this one with my ex-boyfriend back in 2003, and we just laughed our brains out. It's the most ridiculous horror movie ever made, and because of that, a must-see!

Stage cake

It was Lady Gaga's birthday this weekend, and right near the end of her Monster Ball show at the Brisbane Entertainment Center in Australia, her dancers surprised her with a huge cake on stage.

The final Betty

Here’s the synopsis for the final Ugly Betty episode “Hello Goodbye”, which will air in just two weeks:

It’s the end of an era, but the beginning, Betty hopes, of something wonderful. In the award-winning series’ finale, which also features appearances by familiar faces from the past, Betty finds it hard to tell Daniel important news about her future. When she does, his reaction surprises her, but not Claire. Justin and Bobby enthusiastically consider taking advantage of a softening real estate market by apartment-hunting in Manhattan, but Hilda’s resisting even the most amazing places. Amanda grapples with the death of her dog, Halston, and Marc wonders if he’ll ever have a successful relationship.

Are you sad the show comes to an end?

Living la vida loca

To celebrate the fact Ricky Martin has finally come out of the closet, here's a duet between him and Kylie Minogue, singing Living La Vida Loca.

Enjoy!

About time

It's about time! Ricky Martin has finally come out of the closet as a gay man today (not that anyone was doubting it). He wrote in his blog today:

“I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am. These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn’t even know existed.”

Congratulations!

Rivers of America

Looks like the Rivers Of America in Disneyland (the original one, in Anaheim, California) still needs a lot of work until their refurbishment will be finished in May. Here we have two pictures showing the drained river, one with Big Thunder Mountain in the back, and the other one with the Sailing Ship Columbia in its drydock.

Must be a bummer visiting the park while the entire river is drained. Frontierland, Critter Country and New Orleans Square must look a lot different right now.

10x J.Lo

I haven't done a Top Ten in a while now have I? Okay, so here we go, with my ten favourite Jennifer Lopez songs:

5) If You Had My Love
6) I'm Gonna Be Alright
7) Jenny From The Block
8) I'm Real
9) Let's Get Loud

Guilty pleasure

Katy Perry is releasing a new album in a few months, and today, for the first time, she's talked about it:

"It's what I said I wanted earlier. We nailed it: It's roller-skating! It's '90s! It's Ace of Base! It's Cyndi Lauper! It's like all these colors and more. There might be some really cool guest appearances by some cool rappers from the West Coast. I mean, you'll just have to see, since I'm a California girl, you know. And then some best friends might be appearing. … We'll see! It's going to be fun. It's going to be one of those records that is everybody's favorite guilty pleasure."

I loved her first album One Of The Boys, so I'm looking forward to this new one as well!

To Malawi

Madonna was spotted at Heathrow airport this morning where she landed with a commercial flight from the U.S.
She is said to be spending only a short time in London and head over to Malawi this week. Sources are reporting that the entire family is set to fly out to Africa on this very same day.

Project runway

Next Thursday episode of Project Runway will have a very special celebrity judge: no other then Jessica Alba will be a guest on the show and eliminate one of the contestants. During the episode, the designers need to come up with an outfit for a mystery model, who turns out to be show presenter Heidi Klum.

More time

Victoria Beckham reportedly wishes to spend more time with her husband David Beckham. “They are still in love with one another, but the last year has seen their lives go in two different directions,” a source told The People. “David is a brilliant dad with the children, but has had to put up with only seeing them for short periods for much of the year.

“Victoria would never stand in the way of his footballing career, but the truth is she has been left a bit upset by her husband’s keenness to spend his time away from the family,” the insider explained. “She’d much rather he remained in California at their home this summer, especially now that he’s got this injury."

Promotion in Europe

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler are in Berlin, Germany, to promote their new movie The Bounty Hunter. They visited Paris last night, and are headed for Madrid tomorrow.

Sadly, there's no Amsterdam on their schedule.

Fashion targets breast cancer

Kylie along with Sienna Miller and Claudia Schiffer are to be the faces of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer 2010.

The groundbreaking campaign from UK charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer features a series of sensational new images, shot by world renowned photographer Mario Testino, depicting the famous ambassadors appearing naked, wrapped in a striking silk sheet emblazoned with the iconic 'target' logo.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer was established in 1994 by Ralph Lauren after his friend and Fashion Editor of the Washington Post, Nina Hyde died of breast cancer, and was the fashion industry's response to the devastating impact of the disease.

Since the launch of FTBC in the UK in 1996, it has raised over £10.5 million for Breakthrough Breast Cancer's groundbreaking research, campaigning and education work.

Since its inception as a T-shirt campaign, FTBC has successfully evolved into a collection of Fashion Targets product lines from leading retailers and designers.

This year's supporting retailers include: M&S, River Island, Warehouse, Topshop, Coast, Laura Ashley, my-wardrobe.com, Whistles, Superdry and Melissa Odabash.

All the items will be available to buy from 29th March 2010, both in-store and online with no less than 30% of the price of each item going directly to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

A Gaga birthday

Happy birthday to Lady Gaga, who turns 24 today!

Sweet person

She has a tight circle of friends. They won’t say much about her. They want to protect her. And that’s because she’s been nice to everyone along the way. She’s not stuck up. She doesn’t act like a star. She acts like a normal, sweet person, which is exactly what she is. And that’s why everyone is so loyal to her.

A friend of Sandra Bullock, speaking about how Sandra's dealing with her cheating husband.
