Great news

After the scary news I posted just a couple of minutes ago, fortunately there's also good news on the nuclear subject.

Russian president Dmitri Medvedev and American president Barack Obama are ready to sign a new treaty that will reduce the amount of nuclear weapons drastically, the press agency of the Kremlin announced today. Medvedev and Obama are both satisfied with the results of their negotiations and a date to sign the new treaty can be set soon. The new treaty will be the replacement of the START treaty, dating back to 1991.

Great news! The less nuclear weapons there are in the world, the better. Although of course it would be an illusion to ban them all, since there needs to be some kind of deterrent in case Al Quaida or some other terrorist group finds a way (heaven forbid) to make their own nuclear weapons.
