A women's softball coach in Tennessee says her team was banned from a church league after learning she was a lesbian.
Jana Jacobson told a Memphis newspaper, The Commercial Appeal, that officials at Bellevue Baptist Church told her she had a deviant lifestyle and her team would not be allowed to compete.
Jacobson said her team is made up of straight and gay players. They were looking for more games to play when they discovered the Cordova church had a league.
Jacobson said she registered, paid the entry fee and attended an organizational meeting. Later, a church official called her seeking another meeting. At that one, officials began questioning whether she was gay. When she said she was, they told her the team could not play.
Bellevue spokesman Jim Barnwell said the church had no comment on the incident.
What a horrible way to act, especially coming from a church. Then again, what more can we expect from churches? This is how they behave all the time.
Time to take some action! I send this sad excuse for a church an e-mail telling them exactly how I felt about their ridiculous bigotry. Please do the same, by clicking here.
