Promo shot

I posted the video already, but this shot from it is so cool I wanted to post it anyway: Take That during the shoot for the video for their brand new Progress single Kidz.

Desperately seeking Susan

Photos Herb Ritts took of Madonna and Rosanna Arquette during a publicity shoot for their hit film Desperately Seeking Susan were initially deemed too "lesbian," according to veteran publicist Reid Rosefelt on My Life as a Blog.

Rosefelt, who was working as a publicist on the 1985 mistaken identity comedy, recalls the day he first told Madonna that Ritts would be photographing her and costar Arquette for publicity photos and, possibly, the film's poster.

“Is he gay?” Madonna asked. “Gay men take good pictures of me.”

Rosefelt recalls that during the meeting for the film's ad campaign an agency was pitching a campaign that traded on the film's disillusioned housewife plot, with Arquette’s face on a toaster and Madonna’s face on a piece of toast. Thinking the images were terrible, Rosefelt pulled out photos from the Ritts session, causing a hush in the room.

Long career

There really is no news story to this new picture, but I just wanted to post it because it shows just how great Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour is. She's only 24 years old, but after seeing the show twice myself, there is no doubt she will have a very long career ahead of her!

Twilight: on set

Twilight fans around the world will be thrilled to see the first picture from Robert Pattinson on the set of the fourth mpvie, Breaking Dawn.

Who am I kidding? I'm thrilled myself!

The voice

Cee Lo Green and Maroon 5 rocker Adam Levine have joined the cast of NBC’s new competition series, The Voice. Cee Lo and Adam will serve as two of four coaches featured on the Mark Burnett show, which will debut on April 26 at 9/8c on NBC.
The Voice is based on a Dutch hit in which contestants audition while judges face the other direction, unable to see the contestants. The judges make their verdicts based on the singer’s vocal talent alone rather than being influenced by the contestant’s physical appearance. After the audition rounds, the judges will coach the contestants.

As a Dutch guy, I'm quite proud this format has gone over so well in the United States!

Ghost protocol

Katie Holmes makes a Starbucks run on Monday in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.Katy is back in Vancouver, where hubby Tom Cruise is working on Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - late last week.

Born this way - live in New York

Enjoy Lady Gaga singing Born This Way as the final encore of her Monster Ball show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Obviously, this is a fan recording, but the show itself has been filmed for the HBO special (and DVD) 'Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Live In Madison Square Garden'.

Stop shark finning

Hammerhead sharks are awesome ocean predators. These are some of the most powerful creatures in the sea, but even they can’t survive the brutal practice of shark finning… and it’s driving these and other sharks ever closer to extinction.

Imagine it: ripped from the water, these amazing animals are stripped of the dorsal fins that they need to swim and then left to bleed to death in the ocean. Shark finning is a gruesome practice. It often involves catching sharks, cutting off their fins and tails usually while they are still alive, and throwing them back in the water.Unable to swim, the shark bleeds to death or drowns. By just harvesting the fins, which take up less space on a boat than the rest of the low-value shark carcass, fishermen are able to stay out much longer and pull in many more sharks.

Overfishing of sharks continues today at unsustainable levels. Mighty hammerheads, and many other types of sharks, have been decimated and graceful oceanic whitetips have almost disappeared – nearly a third of all shark species face extinction. The demand for shark fins drives an industry, causing as many as from 26 million to as much as 73 million sharks to be killed every year, predominately for use in shark fin soup. At around $400 a pound, it’s a very lucrative business.

Sitcom war

Thank you to the 17 people who voted on last week's poll 'What's your choice for the Oscar's?' Here are the results:

The Social Network - 4 votes
Black Swan - 3 votes
The King's Speech - 9 votes
True Grit - 1 vote

Now for this week's poll, let me know which sitcom you like better, Two And A Half Men or The Big Bang Theory (pictured above). Voting's one!

Fake dates

A couple of websites are claiming that Tori Amos is playing live shows in Europe. One, allegedly in Utrecht (the Netherlands), is listed for February 19 (last week). The other, in Zurich, carries a date of March 16, 2011. Fansite Undented confirmed with official channels that both of these listings are fake, and nobody knows where the information is coming from. It’s always a good idea to be skeptical of concert listings when they haven’t been confirmed by Tori and her people.

Radio 1 interview

Lady Gaga called into British Radio 1 to talk about her new music video for “Born This Way” just an hour before its premiere on Monday. Gaga also revealed she is currently designing the stage for her upcoming world tour. Listen to the interview by clicking here!

Utterly boring

"How do I cope with touring? By being completely and utterly boring. I go on stage and then I go back to my hotel room, put on my pyjamas and drink tea. I'm not rock 'n' roll. I never have been,"

Kylie Minogue, speaking about touring.

The quiet revolution

From The Sun:

THE only trouble with Lexus' new ad is that KYLIE MINOGUE doesn't come free with each car sold. The pop pixie has lent her face and driving skills to the manufacturer's campaign for its new CT 200h model. No matter how smart its interior, a spruced-up Kylie will get more pulses racing than an well designed dashboard any day of the week.

The soundtrack to the promo is provided by 30 drummers from around the world, including GORILLAZ star STANLEY McKENZIE and former SMITHS sticks man MIKE JOYCE.

As the snare rhythm builds to an ear-popping crescendo, the action cuts to Kylie sitting in a silent Lexus.

Putting a finger to her mouth, she says: "Shh. Join the quiet revolution."

Commenting on her involvement in the ad, Kylie said: "The CT 200h is your own space for peace and quiet among the hustle and bustle of the world."

Bridget Jones 3

After years of speculation, it is now official there will be a thrid Bridget Jones movie! Renee Zellweger, who plays Bridget, agreed to reprise her role again, and both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are on board as well!

Scriptwriters are planning a big twist between the three main characters. They are only in the first draft stages, but ideas are already being floated about a pregnancy love triangle, with Bridget worrying about who is the father.

Great news!

Right around the corner

Justin Timberlake is returning to music - because he's out of work in Hollywood. The "unemployed" star received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Napster founder Sean Parker in Oscar-winning movie The Social Network. And despite the rave reviews, Justin says he hasn't been offered any roles of late - so he's going back to the day job.

He said: "I think I may spend some time in the studio this summer. I'm unemployed right now. I haven't been hired for anything so I may hire myself to write some music. It's right around the corner."

Good! I'm looking forward to some new JT music!

Oscar winners

Colin Firth won the Oscar for best male actor for his role as King George in The King's Speech. I've seen the movie last week, and I think it's a well deserved award.
As expected, Natalie Portman won the award for best female for her magnificent part in Black Swan.

For a full list of Oscar winners, click here.

Like a clown

Madonna entered the Oscar after party last night looking like the total slut she is. Wearing a see-through dress, and worst of all, fur, she looked more like a clown than the former glamour girl she ones was.

What was she thinking?!

Hard Candy 3

Madonna’s third Hard Candy Fitness Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, a beautifully designed 52,000 square foot space in the center of the city is projected to open in mid-2011, it was confirmed today by Mark Mastrov, Chairman of New Evolution Ventures (NeV). The announcement of this latest facility follows the recent opening of the Mexico City Hard Candy Fitness and confirmation of plans for a Hard Candy Fitness Center in Moscow.

The St. Petersburg location holds special meaning for Madonna. “St Petersburg, Russia was one of the most magical nights on my ‘Sticky & Sweet’ Tour and I’m thrilled that we’ve found the perfect location and ideal environment there for the next Hard Candy Fitness,” commented Madonna.

Two and a Half Men cancelled

CBS and Warner Bros have decided to stop production on Two and a Half Men for the remainder of the season. The hit CBS sitcom, which stars Charlie Sheen, was scheduled to resume production on Monday for four more episodes.

“Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros TV have decided to discontinue production of Two and a Half Men for the remainder of the season,” two companies said in a statement.

Too bad, I enjoy watching Two and a Half Men every day...

Prince William and Kate also received a scholarship in their name, which will be worth $100,000 and go to funding the tuition for future students.

Sportpaleis Antwerpen

Since I always enjoy visiting a new (for me) concert arena for the first time, and seeing the fact I will be seeing Kylie's Aphrodite - Les Folies Tour at Sportpaleis Antwerpen in less than a month, I thought it would be fun to look up some information about this arena on Wikipedia, and share it with you:

The Antwerps Sportpaleis (Antwerp's Sport Palace), also called Sportpaleis Antwerpen or simply the Sportpaleis, is an arena in Antwerp, Belgium. It is a multipurpose hall where concerts, sporting events, festivals and fairs are organized. The arena was built for sport, especially track cycling, but there is now little sport there, an exception being the Diamond Games tennis.

According to Billboard Magazine, the Sportpaleis is the second most visited event hall in the world, second only to Madison Square Garden. The Sportpaleis is known for performances by both Dutch-speaking and international artists. It also hosts the Nekka-Nacht, the Proximus Diamond Games tennis tournament for women and Pop Poll De Luxe, organised by the magazine HUMO.

The main building is 88 metres wide and 132 metres long and has a roof spanning 11.600 m². Under the stands, there is a wooden cycling track 250 meters long and 8 meters wide. The arena is elliptical and has two floors.

Billboard Magazine said the Sportpaleis was the second most visited event hall in the world between November 2007 and November 2008, with 1,239,436 visitors. Only Madison Square Garden in New York had more.

The arena can hold 18,500 people. It has 13,500 seats in the stands and 1,780 square center (seats) and the capacity to house a standing audience of 5,000.

Second week #1

Lady Gaga’s single “Born This Way” spends its second week on top of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first song since 2003 to hold the position after a number one debut. In only ten days, the track sold 957,000 copies (in the U.S.) and is already the best-selling 2011 release.

Congratulations, and well-deserved!

Final shows

However, before she can go on her Loud Tour, Rihanna still has to finish the last 9 (out of a total of 72) shows of her Last Girl On Earth Tour. The tour will continue in Australia tomorrow, after a 5 month break. Wouldn't it be easier to just start the new Loud Tour in Australia, instead of going back to a show that's been on hiatus for almost half a year, one would think? Anyway, here are the final dates:

February 25 - Brisbane - Brisbane Entertainment Centre
February 26 - Gold Coast - Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre
February 28 - Newcastle - Newcastle Entertainment Centre
March 4 - Sydney - Acer Arena
March 5 - Sydney - Acer Arena
March 7 - Melbourne - Rod Laver Arena
March 8 - Melbourne - Rod Laver Arena
March 10 - Adelaide - Adelaide Entertainment Centre
March 12 - Perth - Burswood Dome

I've seen the show last May at Gelredome in Arnhem, so I can tell you Australian fans you're in for a great night!

An amazing time

"We're creating an incredible ride with this tour. I'm excited to get out on the road and share my new music from this album. We are going to have an amazing time and I know my fans are ready to get LOUD! Were going to start the first week in June in the United States. It's the Loud era so I am very excited it's gonna be new colors, new stage & new show..."

Rihanna, speaking about her Loud Tour 2011, which I will be seeing at Gelredome Arnhem in November! Loved the Last Girl On Earth Tour last year, so I hope this show will be just as good!

10x Katy Perry

Time for a new top ten list! Today, my ten favorite Katy Perry songs. Here we go:

1) Firework
2) Self Inflicted
3) The One That Got Away
4) Hummingbird Heartbeat
5) Thinking Of You
6) If You Can Afford Me
7) Lost
8) California Gurls
9) Pearl
10) Waking Up In Vegas

What are yours?

Black Swan

Earlier this week my friend Anneke and I went to see Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis at the cinema. Obviously I knew upfront it would be a pretty impressive movie (it's not nominated for 5 Oscar's for no reason), but I couldn't have prepared for just how disturbing this movie is (but in a good way).

Both Natalie and Mila play their parts as the White Swan and the Black Swan extremely well, and their ballet performances throughout the movie are just outstanding, especially considering none of them used body doubles.

It's the kind of movie that demands your attention for the full (almost) two hours, but if you're willing to give it that attention, it will be worth your while!

California pictures

British newspaper The Sun visited Katy Perry's California Dreams Tour at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, Italy, and took some great pictures. Check them out!
Looking forward to seeing the show myself at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam on March 15.

How I roll

U2 on Glastonbury

U2 have confirmed they will headline this year's Glastonbury Festival on the Friday night. Guitarist Edge said by video message: "As you know, I was at Glastonbury last summer - mainly to do a bit of a recce. I got a chance to wander around and eat a veggie burger and fries. On the Saturday I got up there with Muse and had a fantastic time. This year U2 are all looking forward to coming back. We'll be playing June 24 and we'll see you there."

African roots

Beyonce's controversial photoshoot, which saw her face darkened and daubed in face paint, has been defended by the magazine that shot them.

Beyonce appeared in L'Officiel Paris in designer dresses, including one designed by her mother, in an African Queen themed 90th anniversary issue but the mag claims that she was "voluntarily darkened". They said that the entire shoot was a tribute to the star's "African roots"

"The designs are all reflective of the African influence on fashion this season," the magazine said in a statement. "As for the artistic make-up, the inspiration came from several African rituals during which paint is used on the face."

The happiest crime scene on Earth

A Walt Disney World employee is accused of raping a single mother he lured to Central Florida with offers of free theme-park passes and bargain accommodations at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort (pictured above), according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Reservations clerk Wilbert "B.J." Brookins, 31, was charged with sexual battery Wednesday, a day after the woman and her two young children arrived from out of state to celebrate her birthday with a family vacation, records state.

The woman accused him of raping her Tuesday evening. The alleged rape happened after he took her and her children on a free tour of the Magic Kingdom, according to arrest records.

Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger said Thursday that Brookins had been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Spinning around - live in Helsinki

And finally, here's Kylie Minogue singing Spinning Around, at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, Finland, during the Aphrodite - Les Folies Tour.

I have now posted the entire show. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I did. Can't wait to see the show myself on March 17 (Heineken Music Hall Amsterdam) and March 19 (Sportpaleis Antwerpen).

Slow - live in Herning

Not the best quality, but I decided to post it anyway: Kylie's new jazz version of Slow, during the Aphrodite - Les Folies Tour at Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, Denmark.

In my arms - live in Herning

Live from Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, Denmark, enjoy Kylie Minogue singing In My Arms, during opening night of the Aphrodite - Les Folies Tour.

Pictures with fans

Naming ceremony

Prince William and his fiancee, Kate Middleton, are all smiles as they arrive at the naming ceremony of the RNLI lifeboat Hereford Endeavour on Thursday in Trearddur Bay, North Wales.

The event marked the couple’s first joint appearance since the announcement of their engagement last year. Prince William and Kate are set to marry on April 29.

Under the maple tree

Speaking of Kylie Minogue, Kylie arrived in Riga, Latvia this morning, where she will perform her fourth Aphrodite - Les Folies show at the Riga Arena. She posted the picture above of herself on Twitter.
