Bit of a break?
With their latest tour completed and the boys having families and solo careers to get back to, Take That is preparing to go on a bit of a hiatus from the band. Sources say that unlike before, this is a mutual decision between all the guys in the band and is not hindered on Robbie Williams' desire to go back to his solo career. An insider explains:
“They will be meeting up to discuss things after Christmas. They all love touring and recording music, and have been totally dedicated to Take That but nothing has been decided about what happens next.”
Luckily, before this the Progress Live our DVD comes out!

Cut the rope
I got the cutest little game on my iPhone today! It's called Cut The Rope, and the goal is feeding fruit to a frog-like creature. You need to deliver the food by cutting ropes (hence the title), bursting bubbles and various other skills. It's really addictive, and best of all, the Lite Version is free. There's also a Holiday Version, free as well!
Get it in the App Store on your iPhone!

Campus pride
Elmhurst College in suburban Chicago has added to its application form a question regarding sexual orientation, making it the first school in the U.S. to do so. Reportedly in an effort to increase campus diversity, the 3,000-plus-student school is asking applicants: "Would you consider yourself to be a member of the LGBT community?"
Elmhurst, which offers a focus on LGBT issues in its Intercultural Studies program, claims that answers to the question will not play a role in the admissions process. The president of Elmhurst, S. Alan Ray, says the question was added this year because it allows the school "to live out our commitments to cultural diversity, social justice, mutual respect among all persons, and the dignity of every individual."
A pro-gayorganization, Campus Pride, has congratulated Elmhurst for "setting the bar."

Beach fun
Madonna, her toyboy Brahim Zaibat and her children were enjoying a day out at the beach in the South of France. Madonna looks actually pretty normal in this picture. It looks as if she hasn't been to the plastic surgeon for a while, which serves her well.
See you soon
The widow of shark attack victim Ian Redmond paid tribute to the "most handsome and perfect man" at his funeral today — and added: "I will miss you so very much."
Devastated Gemma Redmond, 27, said despite her pain at losing her "darling husband" she was consoled by "the rich tapestry of our memories. I promise you will never ever be forgotten and I will miss you so very much. You, above all people, knew how hard I found it to say goodbye to others and so I know you will understand if I don't say it. What I will say instead is, 'See you soon.' I'm looking forward to it so very much."

Last friday night
Katy Perry posted this hilarious behind the scenes video, filmed on the set of the video for Last Friday Night (TGIF).
No secret wedding
Angelina Jolie is on the cover of Vanity Fair. Here are some quotes from the interview:
On plans for the future: “No secret wedding..I’m not pregnant. I’m not adopting at the moment.”
On partner Brad Pitt's level of professional support: “He’s been so supportive. But it’s hard to separate the person that loves you from the critic, so I don’t think he’s a fair judge.”
On how directing In the Land of Blood and Honey has changed her view on acting: “Brad thinks I’m going to be a nightmare…I had such a good experience he thinks I’m going to be impatient with directors, which I already am.”
On writing the script for her film: “I had the flu…I had to be quarantined from the children for two days. I was in the attic of a house in France. I was isolated, pacing. I don’t watch TV and I wasn’t reading anything. So I started writing. I went from the beginning to the end. I didn’t know any other way.”
Jen, Demi and Alicia
Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and Alicia Keys are on the cover of Glamour magazine’s October 2011 issue. Here’s what the ladies, who directed short films for Lifetime’s Five, had to share:
Jennifer, on wanting to bring the project to life:
“We were intrigued by the challenge of creating short stories that would defy audiences’ expectation of the subject. We wanted to balance the drama with humor and irreverence because that’s what’s helped our friends who’ve faced this get through their treatment. We wanted stories that were informative without being heavy-handed. Oh, and they needed to be brilliantly written. Other than that, our goals were small. [Laughs.]”
Jennifer, on not believing what you read in the tabloids:
“There’s not nearly as much stealing and obsessing and middle-of-the-night secret calls to ex-boyfriends and scheming and cheating as they lead you to believe. Most of it’s just bulls—, however entertaining.”
Demi, on raising awareness: “
I think that so often there is that ‘out of sight, out of mind’ feeling, like breast cancer is happening to other people, not you. Before this project came up. Even I really didn’t want to pay attention. I feel that this came to me to make me pay attention.”
Alicia, on directing her film, Lili:
“After I read the scripts, I felt like this was something important, and I wanted to be a part of it. I chose Lili because she’s close to my age and I understood the family dynamic. I had an immediate idea of what I could bring to it.”
House of hype
Katy Perry looked absolutely lovely at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. After the ceremony, where she won three awards, she was spotted at the afterparty at House Of Hype, where she was dancing to Britney Spears' I Wanna Go.
You are there
Though not technically an unreleased song, usually you can only hear this song, called You Are There as the background music for Kylie Minogue's documentary White Diamond. It's a beautiful song, so I thought you'd enjoy hearing it without the distraction of the images.

Rather amazing
I do have to admit Britney Spears looks rather amazing at the MTV Video Music Awards yesterday, at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. I'm still on the lookout for her 'performance' (and I use the term losely) so You'll have to wait on that a little bit longer.
Bush talks 9/11
Former USA president George W. Bush talks about the 9/11 attacks. Does he have abook to promote or something? What an idiot.

VMA's: Adele
Adele KILLED it at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles last night. What a fantastic performance of her current hit single Someone Like ou.
It was horrible
Rihanna's father feared he was going to die after being struck down by a killer tropical disease. Ronald Fenty, 57, was rushed to hospital when he was struck down by dengue fever. The clothing salesman fell ill just days after Rihanna visited him at home in Barbados.
Speaking as he recuperated, Ronald said: "It was horrible. I thought I was going to die." And he revealed he had no way of contacting Umbrella star Rihanna, until one of his daughter's pals lent him a phone. He said: "I was actually in a hospital ward that Robyn's friend worked in as a doctor. She offered me her BlackBerry to call Rihanna. I called her and she was worried – she said, 'Daddy, what's wrong with you?'."
Despite the peril, Ronald reassured his daughter – now back in LA after a pals' holiday in Europe – that he would be fine.

Loud reviews
I can't wait to see Rihanna's LOUD Tour at Gelredome Stadium in Arnhem in November. Check out these excellent reviews of the show:
The tour has gained critical acclaim from music critics citing it as "Rihanna's best tour yet". Jane Stevenson of the Toronto Sun commented that " the two-hour, larger-than-life show lived up to the billing. And then some." Bernard Perusse of the Montreal Gazette stated that the tour was a visual spectacle saying, "Pods, dry ice, sparklers, plumes of smoke, a platform raising her from below stage and back down when needed, a moving section of the floor to convey her from one side of the stage to another, videos, writhing dancers, a cannon, arena-rock guitar solos, umpteen costume changes and maybe a record for the amount of times a performer has screamed “Montreal!” in the centre. The fans ate it up." Jon Brean of the Minneapolis Star Tribune remarked, "The Barbadian singer is more visually and vocally dynamic than she has ever been before." Amanda Ash of the Vancouver Sun stated, "Rihanna knows how to throw a party -a sexy, steamy, tightand-bright bash where yesterday's troubles are crushed beneath mile-high stilettos and drowned by intoxicating club beats", and added, "Rihanna turned Rogers Arena into a giant dance club on Friday night." Nation News Barbados commented, "The name of Rihanna’s world tour adequately described the experience at the biggest show to come to Barbados to date. It took a long time in coming, but Rihanna’s first major showing in her hometown was definitely well worth the wait. From the endless hits including S&M, Man Down, So Hard, Pon De Replay and Unfaithful; the spectacular stage and props to her playing a solo piece on drums, the girl who grew up in nearby Westbury Road was awesome."
Can't wait to see it myself!

And then there was Gordon
Deadline reports that "The Proposal" co-stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are looking to lead the voice cast of the animated comedy "And Then There Was Gordon."
The series, which will be written Reynolds and Allan Loeb, follows an ordinary child who is surrounded by his gifted siblings and brilliant, worried matriarch, which is, reportedly, the role that Bullock is slotted to play.

Plot points
Jon Cryer (who plays Alan Harper) has sat down with Entertainment Weekly to spill some details about the new season of Two And A Half Men, the first season without Charlie Sheen (he supposedly dies on the show), giving some rough season-long plot points and shedding light on Kutcher's enormous trailer.
Though there will be a big funeral for Charlie Harper in the first episode, Cryer says that the show won't be sappy and overly sentimental about the death. Schmidt will come in and buy that house, letting Alan and son stay there. And while Sheen's character was the ladies' man in the show, with Cryer's playing the geek, the tables are now turning -- at least a little bit.
"I can only say my character ends up being the more romantically experienced one of the two of them. So Alan becomes sort of a mentor character to Ashton's character," Cryer revealed. "And as bad as an idea as that sounds, it's just as bad on the show -- I'm a terrible mentor. And that's where a lot of the fun of the show comes from."
As for his relationship with Kutcher off-screen, Cryer raved about the new star. "I have been in what I refer to as the U.S.S. Yorktown," he said about Kutcher's trailer. "What's great about it is it provides shade -- for most of the studio lot. He had told me early on that he was going to get an enormous trailer. It's a fun place to hang out for us and anybody on the crew -- he has an open-door policy. He's got almost a club upstairs -- yeah, that's right, I said upstairs. He pipes music out before and after the shows and everybody hangs out. It creates a great vibe."
What do you think, will Two And A Half Men work without Charlie Sheen? My bet is it will be cancelled after four or five episodes.

Vanguard award
Britney Spears laughs as she watches her tribute live at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
Britney was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and viewed a dance tribute to her most famous songs including “Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did it Again,” “Crazy,” “Toxic,” “Do Somethin’,” and “Hold it Against Me.”
While introducing her, Lady Gaga, dressed as Jo Calderone, said: “She taught us all how to be fearless, and the industry wouldn’t be the same without her.”
I don't know how she does it
Sarah Jessica Parker looks great at the film presentation of her new movie I Don’t Know How She Does It held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Sunday in Moscow, Russia.
I Don’t Know How She Does It is a comedy centered on the life of Kate Reddy, a finance executive who is the breadwinner for her husband and two kids.
The film hits theaters on September 16.
Criminal
Britney Spears confirmed the fourth single to be taken from her Femme Fatale album, will be Criminal. Not my favorite song from the album, but I suppose it could become a hit single anyway.
VMA's: Lady Gaga
Enjoy Lady Gaga performing You And I, together with Brian May, at the MTV Video Music Awards last night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Songwriting competition
Tori Amos will serve as one of the judges for this year’s International Songwriting Competition. She’s in good company; the other judges include Tom Waits, Black Francis, Robert Smith, Ozzy Osbourne, Jeff Beck, McCoy Tyner, Kelly Clarkson, and folks from My Morning Jacket, Duran Duran and more.
Mister Gaga
Lady Gaga was unrecognisable in the guise of her male alter-ego Jo Calderone at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles last night. She donned a suit and T-shirt and teamed the masculine attire with a teddy boy hairdo and sideburns.
Beyonce's pregnant
Beyonce announced she was pregnant with her first child at the MTV Video Music Awards last night. B smiled and clutched her burgeoning belly, telling photographers "I have a surprise" as she posed for photos on the red carpet.
MTV immediately revealed on its Twitter page: "OMG Beyonce just made a huge announcement on the #vma carpet! #baby!!!!!"
As she began her performance of Love On Top, Beyonce said to the crowd: "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside me."
Congratulations!

Cheap calendar
Check out the cover for the official 2012 Madonna calendar. Madonna does it on the cheap again, this picture is at least 3 years old (I have it as a poster I bought at the 2008 Sticky & Sweet Tour). If she can't even be bothered to take some new, or at least more recent shots, why should her fans be bothered to actually spend money on this?

10x Tours 2012
My top ten list for concert tours I would love to happen next year (obviously I would most like to see singers such as Kylie Minogue, but since she's been touring this year and is not likely to tour again in 2012, I'm only taking into account tours that actually might happen next year):

2) Adele
3) Kelly Clarkson
4) Mika
5) Celine Dion
6) Pink
7) Alanis Morissette
8) Justin Timberlake
9) Madonna
10) Robbie Williams

Pet friendly
Animal welfare agencies are pulling together to offer emergency rescue and sheltering of animals in anticipation of hurricane Irene, on its way to New York City. The ASPCA just announced:
"For families who must evacuate, the City’s evacuation centers, as well as its emergency shelters, will be pet friendly, and people are encouraged to evacuate with their pets. Low-lying areas of the city that are most at risk for flooding and other damage and are designated as “Zone A” low-lying areas in the Coastal Storm Plan include Coney Island and Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn, Far Rockaway and Broad Channel in Queens, South Beach, Midland Beach, and other low-lying areas on Staten Island, and Battery Park City in Manhattan."
Good news. Good luck to everyone in New York affected by the hurricane!

What an idiot
Today, Texas governor Rick Perry (who is in the race to be the Republican candidate for president of the United States) signed a pledge by the National Organization for Marriage that states if he is elected President, Perry will send a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman to the states for ratification, and appoint U.S. Supreme Court and federal judges who will "reject the idea our Founding Fathers inserted a right to gay marriage into our Constitution."
Take note, Americans: another reason not to vote Republican. What an idiot!

Sold out
This morning, tickets went on sale for Demi Lovato's new tour dates and within minutes, her New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom show on September 17th (15 min) and her Los Angeles’ Club Nokia show on September 23rd (30 min) sold out.
She;s not very popular in Europe as far as I know (although you can watch her on the Disney Channel over here as well), but apparently in the United States she's a huge star.

“Simon has created a unique role just for Mariah after plans for her to be in the original US judging line-up fell through. Four months after having her babies, Mariah is ready to get back to business; she has lost so much weight for her small screen debut. The idea is for Mariah to assist Simon at the judges’ houses stage of the US show, as well as helping the other judges. It has yet to be confirmed, but the other plan is for her to be given a special, one-off fifth judge role on the British show.”
Nice!

Long road to recovery
A 10-year-old boy was bitten by a shark Wednesday afternoon in the ocean at Holden Beach, said Sgt. J.H. Hewett, of the Holden Beach Police Department. The boy’s father said he was swimming in 3 to 4 feet of water in the vicinity of the 500 block of Ocean Boulevard West around 3:30 p.m. when he felt something bite his foot. He waded ashore and found a wound on his heel.
Police, fire and EMS personnel responded to the beach within minutes, and the boy was taken to Brunswick Novant Medical Center. That night, the boy’s father told authorities his son was in stable condition but faced a long road to recovery.

Baby elephant
The African elephant count at Disney's Animal Kingdom has reached a full dozen with the birth of a male calf Wednesday at Disney World.
Vasha, the 25-year-old mother, delivered a 311-pound offspring with the assistance of a team of animal-care workers at the theme park. The newborn has not yet been named.
It's the sixth elephant born at Animal Kingdom, meaning one-half of the herd of 12 would have Florida on their birth certificates. Animal Kingdom is home to four male and eight female African elephants.

As promised, another unreleased Kylie Minogue song. This one is called No Better and was recorded for Kylie's Fever album.
Great song!
Aphrodite on DVD
Rejoice, Kylie Minogue fans! After a couple more 3D showings in theatres (I'm seeing it on September 9 and 10 in my hometown Groningen) on September 30 Aphrodite Les Folies will be released on DVD. This is not the cut version as shown on Sky TV in the UK and several other local stations, but the full show!
Can't wait, both for the 3D and the DVD versions!

The one that got away
Katy Perry is releasing a sixth single taken from her multi-platinum Teenage Dream album. After California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework, ET and Last Friday Night (all of them made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100), my favorite song from the album, The One That Got Away, will be released in September.
Glam Nation Live
I just ordered myself a copy of Glam Nation Live, a CD/DVD set by Adam Lambert, recorded during his Glam Nation Tour 2010. My friend Leendert and I saw the show at Paradiso in Amsterdam last year, so of course this is a nice memory of that great evening!
My heart will go on - live in Vegas
The video may not be so well, but audio is perfect: enjoy Celine Dion singing My Heart Will Go On, live during the opening night (on March 15 2011) of her 2011 concert run at the Colliseum at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas.
Stunning!
The testament
As you may know, I'm a huge John Grisham fan, Every book I've read so far has been full of suspense and really good, so 'm planning on collecting and reading them all. After reading The Brethren these past couple of weeks, I finished it yesterday, so starting today, I'm reading The Testament (or at least, the Dutch version of it, which is, quite logically, called Het Testament).
Save the butterflies
Orlando Bloom has sponsored the children’s book “Crystal, the Small Miracle,” which was written by his mother Sonia, in an effort to promote the preservation of the U.K.’s threatened butterflies.
“Butterflies are powerful symbols of the beauty and vulnerability of nature,” he shared. “I am delighted to back Butterfly Conservation and their efforts to ensure that these wonderful insects are conserved for future generations to enjoy.”
